Hi all,
I wonder, what is the biggest engine the Cataphract CTF 4X can take? Is it a XL 250 or XL 255?

Kind regards,
Kodjak

It's 255 of any engine type (STD or XL).

Why is the 4X limited to a 255 engine? Its so slow that the little mechs just tear is apart. Its not like a atlas that can take a jenner waling on it with a bunch of med lasers.

Oh, and when you want to know engine limits - use smurfy... it is kept up to date on at most a 1-2 day delay. Good people those smurfs.

Engine size is listed in the chart and imposed on any builds you make.

Why 255? In my 1X, I finished lots of games as a smoking weaponless center torso. If it were built out on the 4X I would still have weapons the CT/Head weapons. It was super-tasty and caused me to buy a 4X. But I soon found out (probably as you have) that 59 kph is not a brawler. Heck it falls behind its own assaults pretty often.

A 100 ton atlas should not be faster than a 70 ton cataphract.

If you are finding your Cataphraxt 4X is a little on the slow side try grabbing a Jagermech! Even though 2 of the variants lack the 4X's 5 tube missile slot they can field a good sized engine.

the reason that it can only mount a 255 is because if it could go faster it would basically be an ilya with a missle rack instead of the 3rd beam hardpoint, and an extra ballistic hardpoint on top of having all the ballistics in the arm

So when a mech has more ballistic / missle hard points it automaticly has slower engines? This does not makes sense to me or seem consistant with other mech builds.

Maybe because it is intended as direct fire support mech. If I had the option of putting in a bigger engine, I might not rum 4ac5 and have a lot of fun :)

From my understanding, in canon, the 4X is the original version of the 'phract. It had a smaller engine, but could field more, powerful weapons. the other variants are newer models outfitted with better engines, but not as much ballistics firepower.
