An LED attached to a prototype bullet shows its flightpath during a night-time field test

Original Article; http://www.bbc.co.uk...nology-16810107

A self-guiding bullet that can steer itself towards its target is being developed for use by the US military.
The bullet uses tiny fins to correct the course of its flight allowing it to hit laser-illuminated targets.

It is designed to be capable of hitting objects at distances of about 2km (1.24 miles). Work on a prototype suggests that accuracy is best at longer ranges.

Put in an upgrade for machine guns, SSB (Self-Steering Bullets)
Upgrade causes all fired bullets from the machine gun to automatically home in on the CT of targeted, in-range mech.

...ok, maybe not a great addition to BT, but still an interesting article.

Okay, yes, I'd heard about this before, and I thought it was a cool idea.

On to something more realistic though:
First, as you mentioned, it uses a laser-guided system, so it would need assistance from the mech. Second, it should only work for the mech firing the bullets. Third, why the CT only? Why not the the targeted section? (This makes more sense, given that the CT problem [SSRMs] is what sorta gave rise to ECM in the first place.)

As to whether it would be implemented in the game...
probably not.

Still, cool though.
