Just want to ask OP: was it worth of something?

It always feels good to have a goal, develop a plan, and execute. That's on a high level.

As far as this particular exercise was concerned, I wouldn't want to do it very often and maybe never again, but it was fun in a way. I don't know if I'd be saying the same if I didn't win. Winning is like breaking even in this case so this has to be one of the worst gambles possible.

And for those saying I should have went out, met new people, read a book, how many of those things did they do this weekend! And frankly, I don't need more friends and I'd rather play mechs than read a book!

Congrats, and thanks for the write-up Broceratops. A well deserved win for the efforts involved, and an excellent post summarizing the experience and how PGI can make it better in the future.

Thanks
- To Trauglodyte for letting me play along side him a couple of times.

Humbly Yours,

You're welcome, BroTops. Gratz on the win!

PS> I had a couple of bad flashbacks to the WoW vanilla grind which then took me back even further to the many many nights in Everquest camping lower Guk for my piece for the epic robe only to have to camp more for the 2nd epic robe only to do it again for the epic fists. AND THEN having to do it two more times because the game glitched at the hand in for the 2nd epic robe. Oh the nightmare days of not sleeping cause of a video game. Not exactly sure what that says about us but hey, we did it, do it, and continue to do it.

I'll ignore the trolls.

Well written post Broceratops, excellent documentation on a hard-fought exercise. I salute you, and hope to have you shoot me out of the air.

I did the mini-tournament version and recommend it for those of us who would find divorce very expensive. I looked at the rankings and thought about the math. I played maybe 10 games in each weight class and finished #536 in the world. I played about as much as I would in any other weekend and feel my finish was respectable.

Again good job Bro.

Edit: It is also good to see some of the same names on the forums, in the field, and on the leaderboard. I'm not famous like Broceratops, Mr 144 or Thontor, but recognizing names makes it a more comfortable place.

I hope they handle it better next time for sure, at first the whole thing seemed like a good idea, but I slept in a couple of hours and was already so far behind, I just said "**** it" and played some Tera.

Still, you did very well indeed. Now get some well deserved shut eye.

Sure you would :) I too put in the crazy hours, but had no real plan. my goal was just to 'rank', but for a while I thought I could maintain a top 10 spot (assault). Even when it became obvious I couldn't, I still kept playing. Honestly, my faith in the community is on an all-time high right now.

Congrats again Broceratops...ignore the troll, we understand

Gratz to the bro.. It was good seeing you in a match. Its always good to have people like you in the community. PGI would be wise to listen to what you have to say. You were both positive and critical.

Congrats Broceratops. While I'm not a fan of a "tourney" that seems to primarily measure the ability to operate successfully on minimal sleep and just be able to charge the enemy over and over again, of the names I recognized on the leaderboards I'd say you were among the ones I saw who most deserved their ranking.

Oh im only nice and friendly to those who deserve it. You know what the best part is? I get to determine who deserves it based on how they act. Fantastic! Gotta go tho, its naptime! (By naptime I mean time in bed with the girlfriend fyi)

Just think if you wanted to be a high warlord in World of Warcraft back in the day you had to do this but for a whole month lol!

3 months on Argent Dawn. 14-18 hour planned days for 3 months. It was insane. One reason I didn't grind this tournament.

Great post Broceratops. Fun read, and congrats, you deserve it!

Unfortunately for you, everyone can do that, for everyone.

I am not sure why you believe Broceraptos - or anyone - did it for the banner and the recognition. Some people climb mountains just to see if they can, not because that will lead to fan mail. Heck, some might not do it if they'd know all the hatemail they get for it. "Jerk, if you're a great man, you would cure cancer!"

I hit Warlord status the week that they SAID that they were shutting it down. Only problem is that they decided to go another week after and my ranking slipped me down to General. So mad!!!

You won a single player tournament in a team based game, which used a flawed and ambiguous formula to calculate the winner. Congratulations.

I don't have a problem with you, it's the idea behind the tournament. Simple ELO test for all the wrong reasons and executed poorly. Thumbs down to PGI.

Congrats Broceratops!
I only got as high as76 overall...But like many others divorce is way too expensive for me to grind like that. Maye next time.

As for the payoff, I think that "who am I to judge you." Others are saying that you should have read a book, met new people blah blah blah. You did what you wanted to do, and who cares if its a "Stupid" video game (Note-I do NOT think MWO is stupid, at all!)
I cant count the number of nights I stayed up reading a good book, but that's what I like to do. I also remember staying up all night on patrol because I was afraid of getting shot, but again, there was a reason for it.

You had a plan and executed it masterfully. Personally, that's what I prefer to judge you on! All others can go jump in the lake because they are just jealous!

Again, Congrats man. Good job.

Congratulations, broceratops. Fun read. Now I want to hear snailio's side of the story. I do not want to see you on MWO for at least a week! :)

Great write up, thanks for your honesty and thoughts on the tournament. I myself only managed 34 solo games this weekend but I saw some interesting forum goers (don't think I ran into you Bro but I saw Mr 144, Wispsy, MischiefSC, etc.)

Had some fun matches and only ended up with a 50% win rate in my 34 games.

Was farming my hero mechs and bought a new Pretty Baby for the weekend.

Ended up with an overall PPG of 1.32 across the 4 mechs I used.

1.33 in my new PB
1.33 in my Flame
1 in my YLW
2.0 in my 3L (don't have a death's knell)

It was cool to see some familiar forums faces and I thought the community was really at an all time high this weekend. Amazing waht breaking people out of their 4 man pug stomps can do haha.

Nice posting, and of course big piece of work. There are several things I find quite pleasing about it:

- Obviously this event wasn't dominated by some intolerable annoying schoolkid unable to express him-/herself. That's great, appreciate it!

- The post was fun to read and really summoned old memories of these days long gone, when some friends tried to take part in a diablo2 ladderstorm... we were three players but were able staying in touch with the bigger clans almost three days... even entering top ten in the beginning :)

- It gives me hope, that there is more than whining in the end

To sum up: Nothing I would do nowadays... but I am a "settled" gamer with family and such. But still... Like it! Congrats!!!
