Yes, in TT, the AC/2 generates 1 point of heat, same as an AC/5, which are the values MWO currently uses. But if TT had supported fractional heat levels, that likely never would have been the case. It's not a problem in TT because 1 heat is barely significant, but when you move to a real-time FPS simulator and give weapons different firing rates, the AC/2 becomes one of the hottest weapons in the game.

At 1 heat per shot and 2 shots per second, the AC/2 generates 2 heat per second. That's more than any weapon in the game short of the heaviest energy weapons, and much more than the AC/5's 0.59 heat per second. The entire schtick of ballistic weapons is that they're heavy and ammo-dependent in exchange for relatively low-heat damage, and this problem runs against the grain of that and makes the AC/2 not particularly viable.

The heat generation of the AC/2 can probably be halved with no other changes to the weapon. Personally, I'd go further and cut it to a third, but slow the firing rate to 0.75 shots per second, which would drop the heat per second below that of the AC/5 without buffing the weapon too much.

edit: Just imagine when the Jagermech is introduced, and new players are given it as a trial 'mech with single heat sinks. It'll be worse than the stock Dragon -5N.

The AC/2s do that much heat, because unlike TT, they are not useless.

PGI has buffed the damage output tenfold and with their minimalistic size and weight, the heat is their balancing factor.

Recycle is already 0.75 instead of 0,5 due to bad coding on the server side.

Heat is fine.

The size and weight are TT values too. DPS is no more than the AC/10 (already an anemic weapon) for twice the HPS and the need to keep the reticle trained on the target for five shots.

Then bad coding (which would hypothetically be fixed by the end of beta anyways) would slow the firing rate further still once the rate was set to 0.75.

You are forgetting/ignoring the fact that the AC/2 only takes up one crit space. (This is a HUGE factor).

More than offset by all the heat sinks you have to carry to use the things.

Sure, it's a buff, and one I wouldn't be suggesting if I was at all impressed with 4xAC/2 Cataphracts right now. This could make them a solid build, but right now I find them completely unthreatening.

Heat is what keeps the ac2's in check.

Many players seem to do quite well with their heat management of the AC/2. Additionally, one ton of AC/2 ammo can last an AC/2 for the entire match.

The AC/2 is fine as it is.

Really? I was thinking they weren't hot enough. I run AC2's, just two of them, on my Atlas, and it's amazing how much damage I can pump out of those things. CTF-4X's with four of those things can be pretty badass going up againt slow mechs. the heat is the only thing that keeps them in line. :)

Again...in TT AC/2 produce 1 heat per 10 seconds.

Not 20 heat per 10 seconds as in MWO.

They also FIRE once every 10 seconds. EVERY weapon has the same issue.
