if they can take out the ECM from the 2X. they can just as easily put in the ECM.

hell the K-2 was never designed with Gauss rifles in mind

Presumably it is only on certain mechs that are constructed to take ECM because it might require a large scale dismantling and re-wiring of an old mech to add ECM. It would be like going back to re-wire pre-electricity housing but more complicated in a world that has already lost much of its technical knowledge and is only now beginning to regain it.

That is my theory to make sense of it anyway.
