If all A1 pilots really were blithering morons like your strawman arguments indicate then yes, they wouldn't be a problem, sadly, in the real world, most of them have more than half a braincell to rub together and know how to not get caught in the open, and by the time you really discover their location they've already melted one or two of your teammates, or you.

Then you're either lying or they were complete and utter ****.

I'm talking about knowing what they have, not some hypothetical situation (like you seem to want to). The A1 is nothing but missile pods and mixing LRMs + SRMs just does not work. Streakcats are almost non existent since ECM. So if that catapult is moving towards you or moving up with the group odds are it's an splatcat. This doesn't mean charging blindly.

So you admit the splatcat is so powerful it takes multiple mechs to focus down a single one.

Since focusing fire is by far the most powerful thing in game, if you see one of them focus fire him and then move on to the next. You should always focus fire, if you are not focus firing than you should really not be playing this game because it's critical.

I have so much fun shooting the ears off splatcats. And the fact I run dual ppcs in chassis that go over 100kph, it is just to easy staying out of their range.

I feel that SRM packs should have lower health, as well as a chance to detonate similar to a Gauss. That way, it's easier to de-ear them at close range.

To reiterate: if a splatcat, a 65 ton mech, has the same targeting priority as a stalker or an atlas, something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

splat cats pilots are unskilled *****, but no worse than the rest of the horses ***** that run all those brawlers builds. we just need more huge maps and an advanced mission menu that allows you to choose those large maps every time.

There are stalker builds that would have a higher priority, it's highly situational though so there is no be-all-end-all order to shoot things in. However when shooting, focus fire is extremely strong in this game. More so than ECM, splatcats, Ravens, whatever, focus firing will land you wins quicker. So if the splatcat is the current issue, than you should focus fire on it... because you should always be focus firing on one thing at the time. The sooner they lose a person the sooner numeric advantage goes up which is key.

It can run double speed of atlas ore stalker. Better kill it first than chase all the map after.

A total noob's perspective on splat-cats, and please bare in mind that i kinda suck as a player:

I think they are ok. They arn't as simple to play as you make them out to be because they are both short ranged and relatively soft. Which makes them dependent on positioning and not being focused by opponents from behind/side before the fight starts.

Splat cats are like an assassin dropping behind you and stabbing you in the back. if you engage them from range or from the side you can take the ears off that Micky-Mouse with minimal effort (about 40-50 total damage i think). Hard targets can counter them by having a higher engagement range (because you can gauss/ppc/ac20 their ears from well outside their range) and not committing on bad targets, whereas soft targets will negate a splat cat by running away and poking with their higher-range med lasers.

Yep, the really skilled ones are no more then fingers on one hand. All of the others are players who read numerous threads about OP-builds an try to "rule the world".

The ^&$*ING radar lets you know what a mech is carrying before you charge it. USE IT, stop charging Missile Box Eared Cats before figuring out what is in them.

Little hint - almost everything in the game lets you sit outside an SRM's good cone range and blow it apart.

Is there actually anything you don't think is overpowered ?

The problem with cheese, primarily the splatcat, is that it kills the fun of the game. Forget good aim, concentrating fire with teammates, managing laser and ballistic, heat and ammo...

Nope! Just grab a 'Cat, fill it to the brim with SRMs and kill everything but assaults in two salvos. The problem isn't even with these builds getting multiple kills. Even if they trade kills, it still has a broader effect. The problem is being on the receiving side and being taken taken out near instantly to something you can't possibly defend yourself from on most maps before being gibbed. This is simply not fun. It's frustrating, grating, and utterly annoying. You can desperatly alpha strike, torso twist, and run for cover, but the mindless, fun-ripping Splatcat will simply kamakaze right into you and strip off armor and weapons in one move.

I like Mech Warrior due to the prolonged battle, squeezing every amount of skill, aim, and armor from your mech before going down. This is NOT Call of Duty where can die instantly from a tiny amount of fire. Splatcats don't feel like Mechwarrior. They don't feel right to fight, kill, be killed by, or even be used in the game. It's just not fun. And that's what we have here...

Splatcats should be renamed: "Killed the Fun in MWO Cats."

Also people on this forum are apparently incapable of reading comprehension. It's not about killing, being killed by them. It's about how their playstyle is rubbish game design. Read.

Sorry but cannot for the life of me agree with this sentiment and I have never owned an A1. Its a dangerous beast but easily handled in any match where teamwork happens at all and one on one I dont see them as a particular challenge unless I just happen to blunder into one. So while your opinion is that its rubbish, many of us would argue you are being extremely myopic in your view of what the game is supposed to be and whether the S36 A1 somehow hurts the game. It doesnt imo nor have you proven factually that it does. Frankly its too extreme of a platform to he gamebreaking as far as many of us are concerned.

I just lure people into traps on big maps. Who's to judge I am an unskilled pilot? I adapted to the Splatcat; so what it stopping people to adapt to kill it?

I use mine as an assassin. Run a full flank, wait for the fight to start and stab all the stragglers in the back. I have killed half a team without anyone looking behind them. Who's fault is that?

Why do I even bother, you're all probably catapult players who don't want their precious chassis nerfed and so you'll all just lie through your teeth or refuse to see reason.

All of you are hopeless and I'm not drunk enough to deal with this nonsense today.

maybe not but most other weapon loadouts won't one shot you at 300 meter

A splatcat won't either. It'll generally take several volleys unless you get something like a point-blank back armor shot on a hunchie or a target that's already taken a fair amount of damage.

As a driver of a mastered SplatCat with over 200K excess XP i would like to add a few things:

First, driving one is by far no easy mode. Sure if you suicide rush into the enemy you will most probably kill one or maybe even two of them before they focus you down. That's strong but not yet OP, i do more damage with any hunchback than those guys.

But in the hands of a competent pilot it is a really mean killing machine.

All those hints you guys gave to deal with the Splatcat won't help much if the pilot is patient and knows when and where to strike. For instance i almost never attack someone who can see me so he can either outrun me or shoot me first.
Instead, i pop up right behind you and one-shot anything that is no assault, leaving no chance to react.

And that even on alpine, because -you know- there are many hills of all sorts where i can hide and wait for unwary prey.
Yesterday i was even able to sneak up behind a group of 2 Atlai, 1 hunchback and another mech i don't remember.
Guess what, they all died from 1-2 shots at their delicious rear-armor, two of them before the rest of the group even realized that i was there.

Two games later this happened:
Posted Image

And yep, all four lights have been one-shots. Its hard to hit em the first dozen games, but once you got used to it and know how to compensate their movement, they drop like flies...

Sure there are also those games where you are taken out too early by similar cheesy builds like the 6ppc stalker (Damn you!). Or you evaluated the situation wrong and ended up standing in the middle of half the enemy team. But most of the time you dish out way more damage than you take before you die...

Edit: As one of you already said, the best way to deal with a splatcat is to always watch your six and focus it down as soon as you see it. But because many teams fail at this, the splatcat is never to be underestimated. :)

Last but not least: While very annoying on the receiving end, driving one just makes way too much fun to simply stop for longer than a few days. It makes you addicted once you got used to it.

Oh and before i forget: Please refrain from the usual insults that goes in the direction of "Nooby splatcat driver. Learn to drive a real mech with skill". I drive lots of way more challenging mechs in all weight classes, but the splatpult just makes too much fun to be able to always withstand my cheesy side. :)

Therefore you can't blame the players for using such a build. It is strong, non-exploiting and makes mucha fun, so it's natural that several guys wanna drive it. Same is true for all those other 'Cheese'-builds like streak-cats, Gausspult/phract, (U)AC5-phract, 6-ppc stalker, Lrm boats, ECM mechs of all kinds, ect.
They are part of the game and someone will always use one of those. You can dislike the environment (and of cause tell the devs what's wrong), but not the players using it to their advantage or fun...

TLDR: Though i love playing my Splatcat, i agree that it is currently too strong in the hand of a COMPETENT pilot (and only mediocre/slightly above average when driven by average players).

I would miss it, but for the sake of balance i would not mind if it gets nerfed somehow...

Guess he judges the othe majority of splats who run blindly face to face on enemy mechs thinking they're megatopdamagers and wondering after, why they're dead 5 seconds later. :)
