It would be informative, yes, too bad it will die because whoever designed these forums decided votes don´t bump a poll

In which case, bump.

Would love to see the results of this, if the sample is large enough.

I started playing Battletech in middle school a couple years before Mechwarrior 2 came out, a few times we even got to play Netmech in our school's computer room after school :) Good times!

I am not happy with the choices, but I took the first choice as it was closest to me. I am a long time Battletech player 26 years this year, and I am a fan of the MPBT games by Kesmai and later EA, I didnt care for the Mechwarrior games because they spit in the face of the games original rules.

I had heard of MechWarrior/BattleTech, but never played any of the previous games, TT or digital. I saw an ad, thought it looked cool, tried it out, and it immediately became my new go-to game.

So almost 90% of the people here are here because it's the Battletech universe. That's seriously bad news for PGI. That means that everyone who is here is here for the lore, not for the game. To me that says the only people who find the game fun are us BT/MW nerds who like the game solely because it's Battletech.

Until we see CW the game isn't going to be interesting to attract much of anyone outside those of us who find an Awesome or Atlas or Highlander or Raven inherently cool. In other words, BT nerds. PGI needs to stop screwing around with new mechs and maps and consumables and novelty items to buy and start making the actual game.

Personaly i got here becouse its MW and I played all of mechwarrior computer games. And second with same level of importance for me was this vision of Comunity warfare which i found really interesting. So i hope we will dont need to wait for that for year or something

edit after reading bigmooingcow post:
that might be true but personaly i got at least 3 friends which would play this game becouse of game mechanics, none of them played MW game before. Actualy they allways hated it and were looking on it like stupid scifi arcade which would never work. But when they tried it here they all really liked it but lack of content did its job and nobody even installed it. Definitly they would come if community warfare would be running. They really liked that realtime PvP lore idea even they dont have single clue about BT universe.

Yeah, I think CW is an excellent gateway into the BT universe, which is a VERY cool scifi story IMHO. But nobody is ever going to get hooked who isn't already into BT/MW, because there are already plenty of deathmatch games out there, and MWO is has lag issues, balance issues, and very little content compared to other deathmatch (or team deathmatch) games.

CW is vital to drawing people into the game. Battletech is an epic war drawn across the known galaxy, with shifting front lines, technology challenges, political intrigue, and the occasional insane plot shift (Clans, WoB, etc). This stuff is really cool, and can be the unique hook the brings people into Yet Another F2P game. Cool PPC effects and lore-accurate mech designs aren't going to bring people in. But for the foreseeable future, all MWO is going to be is a deathmatch game where you're less maneuverable than the silly sideways-sprinting CoD soldiers. Kind of a non-starter for the public at large, as is evidenced by the fact that MWO isn't currently the biggest game in the known universe despite being free to play.

When I can hang out with a few hundred other people who have pledged their life to crippling the DCMS, only to find some insane Clan goofballs come and make a mess of the galaxy, THAT'S when it's a real game. Until that point this game is just a tech demo for the promise of MWO+CW.

My disappointment is that CW wasn't Feature #2, right after "Mechs that shoot".

I started playing because one of the first games I ever managed to beat was the original Mechwarrior 2 (not mercs)
Missed Mech3
Found Mech4 well after it had 'died'
Disliked 90% of MechAssault (the Timberwolf and Madcat are NOT different Mechs)
And then found this just after closed beta ended.

Read several of the books - wished I could have had some exposure to the tabletop before Dark Age's skewy Clix game.

-Edit: Oh, and was extremely impressed with the level of maturity in these forums (I came from the WoW forums - you do the math) -though the average seems to have dropped lately >.> (not trying to flame -but the consumables aren't even OUT yet, until then everything is theorycraft)

As a kid, I played the first Mechwarrior title on my IBM PS/2 and loved it. Read some of the books but then moved on to FPS games like DooM, etc. I was completely unaware of this game until guys I played online with for years created a channel on our Ventrilo server apply named, Mechwarrior Online. I about crapped my pants.

This game is floating on nostalgia, that is a bad sign.

That game will probably be dx11 before this one.

I really loved all mw games, none was really bad. MWO lacks fluff badly though. Not singleplayer but just rnd battletech related art and text.

Dropships, maps, chassi descriptions aso. They have this really rich ip but havent done anything non combat related with it yet.

I've been a fan of the series for a while, so I voted for that, but this poll is a bit lacking. There should at least be an option for "other" because what I really bought into was the promise of community warfare.
