Just because someone can see me and pressed "R", not so much. The notification itself does little to help, you still have to determine where the Lock originated from, or watch your Paper-doll to discern the direction the fire is coming from.
The added, and often constant repetitive noise of the "R" pressed function adds little to enhance battlefield awareness over-all. It can also be used as a nice subtle grieving tool to totally screw with an other players head though. If a 4 man decides to just keep targeting the same Mech, from long range but never actually fire until reaching optimum range. It would force Betty to just never shut up. OMG! Betty! Shut up Betty! Please!
But no one would ever do that right?

It is clear that is what you wanted us to vote - just by reading the poll (alone). Try to re-word your options.
I guess it was kinda the easy option :] But no, what I wanted people to vote is what they think, no less, no more. I still don't see any logic in an enemy getting a warning when you press R, as covered in earlier posts, but yeah I guess it makes some people's days easier... I'd like it more stealthy personally.
Anyway, thank you all for voting!

This is probably the least helpful reply to the poll, but it's also very likely the sentiment of the majority of players.

It would make sense in a world where mechs used true radar to target each other...not the sensor shart we have in the battletech universe that requires line of sight.

All I hear is "OHH WAAH I CAN'T SNEAK UP ON YOU WITH A DDC SO EASILY NOW! WAAAH!"
But hey, that's just my opinion.

However, it is eminently reasonable. Why? Even modern planes, far inferior to a battlemech, can tell when someone is pinging them with a targeting apparatus. As far as sensors are concerened auto targeting software is not subtle; it resembles putting an em or infared spotlight on your target which brings back the information needed for acurrately guided missile; which may have their own spotlights. It is however realistic in a distopian future that this technology is not improved to the point where it can find direction. Otherwise if i was funding reasearch in the battletechverse i would put trillions into backtracing tech.
I do think it would be better from a mechanical perspective as a slight boost to the bap.

All of that is irrelevant. I want the option to disable the woman in general, but specifically the targeted message. I was not one of the people salivating over what's-her-name coming back to cameo MWO. I turned off the computer voice in every game if I could.

I'm a Sonar Tech on Submarines its nothing like that. But most people think it is. So for the purpose of this thread it works.
Yeah well, that's why I said simulators and not real life.
My only modern sub "experience" is from Sonalysts' simulators (688(i) Hunter Killer, Sub Command and Dangerous Waters).
Would like to know how subs use their sonar in real life. The non-classified parts at least.
