Unfortunatly, to be affective, i find the user of the flamer has to stand in front of me. Then its just alpha time. It would work much better if it was more engulfing from the sides and rear.

The 90m range make flamers terrible even as a blinding weapon. Standing right in front of someone to obscure their view is only going to make them shoot you first.

Flamers should be a viable weapon, either via damage, or via heat transfer.
Currently they fail at both. As a "blinding" tool they are very overcosted, and as stated before, hurt you more than the target.
Have you tried flamers on a Jenner? You can't see anything when you shoot them....

i have and that is the primary source of this idea. on it's own it did nothing but working with a few friends i managed to completely blind an atlas while a friend destroyed it with the AC2 he had mounted on his spider. the atlas backed into a corner and i just stood still in front of him because he was just firing over my head. it did help that we were on river city night in that particular case, but there are plenty of other cases where i blinded targets while my friends killed them.
they do make it harder to see but you don't need to be anything like accurate for this to work well. my flamer jenner is the slowest of all my jenner builds by at least 20kph and it is also the most survivable. in most cases i end matches without ever losing an armor segment.
also you don't need to hold the trigger down. they only need to be blind when they are aimed at someone on your team.

I understand that the heat damage on a flamer is not enough to shut down a cool mech; however, at close range and furiously firing an energy weapon reliant mech getting hit by a flamer will often have to slow his DPS or risk being shut down.

never said it didn't help but it is a small enough amount that it can't really be relied upon.
