The finished product. See below for the WIP.

Hey, so I've decided to start modeling the Battlemaster. I don't normally do WIPs, but I want to put some love into this one and show it off as I go. It will be a mixture of the original unseen, reseen, and a fan redesign.

The program used is Lightwave for the modeling and the current quad count is at a whopping 25,000. (Most of my 'mechs are finished at 10k. Mostly to make them easier to animate later.)

MW2 model in the background for the heck of it.

Some of it is based on Bishop Steiner's redesign ( http://i.imgur.com/XrSMMmw.jpg ), mainly the lower legs and hips at the moment. I'm planning on redoing most of the Upper half to fit the original with the hand held PPC emitter.

Update on the model.

The Torso and Upper Arms are almost done. I made the torso symmetrical, as it had a missile launcher shoulder before in Bishop Steiner's concept, and made a few other small changes.. The back is basically undetailed, so no point in showing it yet. I'm starting work on the lower arms now.

Another update. PPC emitter added. I decided to keep Bishop Steiner's idea for this part, though I may adjust the size later. A few other details like the radar antennae and vents were added. Next I'm going to texture and rig this bad boy.

I like it, but for some reason it almost looks like an upscaled Dragon to me.

Yeah, I'm kind of with Pariah on this.. looks more Dragonny to me..

I would suggest reducing the CT hump and emphasizing the cockpit area a little more. Maybe just bringing the cockpit forward some would help? Also, the arms feel a little small to me, not T-rex small, but I think they should be a bit bigger/longer.

Still, very nice work! Waaaay better than I could ever produce!

Alright, made a few of the suggested changes. Reduced the amount the CT stuck out, enlarged the cockpit, and scaled up the entire torso and arms to make it look more like an Assault mech.

The model looks good so far but it didn´t look like a Battlemaster to me.

Three things for me:
1. Why is the the PPC under the arm? It should be like a revolver and not so big and bulky
2. The cockpit is too angular i think. I mi mind is the cockpit always round. AND i think the battlemaster was sometimes designed for two pilots. (Like in a battletech book of Michael A. Stackpole, Natural Selection)
3. I didn´t like the neck. They shouldn´t be simmetrical. I like the style of the SRM-6 launcher on the shoulder

As I said before I'm following Bishop Steiner's design so far. http://i.imgur.com/XrSMMmw.jpg

The rounded cockpit and hand held PPC just seem too mecha-y for MWO, so I ended up keeping that part of the design. I had intended to maybe have that arm itself be the gun, and end in the muzzle instead of the hand, but liked Bishop's idea enough to go with it.

For now there is no missile launcher, but I will add one once I find a design I like. The concept's was too bulky for my tastes and the rounded one on the original seems out of place on it.

Basic shape of a launcher I was considering:

The Battlemaster is finally rigged! Next comes the fun part, animation!

Fake concept art. (I created neither of the background images for these two images.)

Maybe it's just me, but it just isn't the same without the massive cocoon-like cockpit, especially since it was one of the few chassis that offered a 2-seater version.

But nice attempt! Even if I agree that it feels like an upgraded Dragon...Grand Dragon? :D

I know you're trying to stick close to Bishop's design, but I still think the cockpit needs some love.. looking back at Bishop's design, the top of the cockpit in your model is even flatter than his.. I think if the top 3 panels on the 'roof' of the cockpit had more slope, it might give more of a Battlemaster feel..

Love the Desert Canyon shot!

I agree on the cockpit seeming....off. If you raised the roof glass to the middle of the big X and reangled it, it would look alot more Battlemastery, IMO. Also, While I like the underhand PPC, it is too rectangular. Try a Pentagram or Hexagonal shape and shrink it by about 10-15%, that should tie it in more with the overall look and feel of the mech. Other than that, it looks great.

I adjusted the cockpit and reangled the top. It should look more fitting now.
