Lately I have been seeing some disturbing trends with this game going into perpetual beta just like MPBT 3025 did.

These are my observations.
1. Map Glitches - It has been a few patches since we have seen transparent snow and terrain in the Frozen City map and most recently with the Alpine map. This bug has still not been fixed.
2. No strategic element - It has been 6 months since I received my approval for beta testing. In those six months we have seen some new mechs come into the game granted, but this game was also suppose to have a strategic element where a mech company would take on another mech company and fight for control over a planet. We still don't have that implemented to even beta test it, not to mention we are still on 8v8 mech battles.
3. Hero Mechs - I actually think this is a great idea to generate cash flow for the devs. That said, implementing hero mechs into the game for the sake of generating money is what most of the new content has been. Yes we did get the Trebuchet finally, but a lot of the new patches have only come out with hero mechs and not much else. Before the Trenchie there were two patches with nothing but hero mechs in them.

Now I know i am going to get people responding to this with nothing more than the "it's beta" response and that is the whole point of this thread. It is beta. It is still beta. Yes we know it's beta and yet again it is beta.

I don't think any one wants to see an unfinished game go live with massive bugs, however 6 months of beta that i personally have been in and 4 months of "open beta" have given us: 1) 5 buggy maps; 2) no strategic element; 3) no 12v12 combat yet; 4) real life money making "hero mechs; and 5) a timeline that the dev teams can't possibly follow.

MPBT 3025 was in perpetual open beta with the community rallied around that game. Granted that game was cancelled because of lack of judgement on EA's part, but it was a complete tactical and strategic game. Mechwarrior Online is so far none of it.

What are your thoughts?

I have a feeling that this game is going to take a massive turn for the better come March.

What I think is that it's a small company with limited resources and most of the work to date is on getting the engine working properly and game balance. Once they get that stuff nailed the rest is easy.

Off topic: Strategy is about directing a war and beyond the scope of this game, especially since the wars in question are already mapped out in the storyline. This game is about fighting and a little bit of tactics (which will increase when the engagement sizes increase on maps big enough to maneuver).
