So didnt hear about MWO online till recently, from my understanding its very similar to mechwarrior 4 (good game in my opinion not as customizeable as MW2 or even MW3 but a bit more realistic i guess)

1. so Game play/Mechanic wise what should my expectations be in comparison to previous MW games?

2. If i treat the game as MW4 will i be off to a bad, decent or good start?

3. are there any things from previous MW games that would be VERY VERY bad to carry over to MWO?

i just hope my vulture and madcat are available mechs....

If you have played any of the previous MW games, you will have a head start over anyone new.

The weapons are not treated quite the same as prior games, but that just takes some gameplay to adjust. Dont blow all your money on a mech or weapon system until you have some experience and get some feedback.

The biggest thing is ECM is a huge deal as it provides invisibility and missile defense and it is currently countered mostly by TAG, PPCs and out of game voice communication.

Light mechs and fast mediums are more survivable than I remember them being in previous games.

Dual Heat sinks in this game are not the same as Double Heat sinks in prior games.

Clans wont be here until summer at the earliest. RIght now we are using the pre-clan inner sphere technology and mechs.

use this site for mech and weapon info plus a good browser based mechlab to play with builds.

First, Have a look at some skilled players showing off the game(courtesy of NGNG) :

Second, check the Training Grounds for the basic new player instructions: http://mwomercs.com/...raining-grounds

That should give you a good baseline to then begin asking some more specific questions.

A larger mech list for sure.

But there are about 400 different mechs in the frachise. So it's kind of a pick and choose kinda thing. Even if they are limiting themselves to the clan invasions.

Also there is the whole Unseen issue.

I suspect that they have already announced the last Inner Sphere mech before they start working on the starting line up of the clans.

Depends on what you mean by "classic."

And yes, generally speaking there is a new mech released every month or two (currently the Highlander and Orion are announced but not yet released). Remember, technically this game is still in beta.

Couple of key differences from previous MW games:
  • As previously mentioned - ECM is really good
  • Armor values are doubled
  • Weapons are tweaked slightly from "standard" BTech
  • As mentioned above - Double heat sinks are actually 1.4x heat sinks

They're releasing a new mech each month. This game has been in development -- from nearly scratch -- since January 2012. Most games have been in development a minimum of two years and an average of three to four years before seeing the light of day.

Most of their early issues was developing an anti-hack system that, to this day, works so well that there are fewer than three actual cheats to be found anywhere. Two of them are so obvious that their use results in very rapid removal of the offending players.

With most of the issues related to that out of the way and increased experience with how to use the CryEngine, their focus is now on the community warfare aspect, more balancing tweaks, addition of MechCommander 2 style traits (artillery strikes, UAV, other information warfare elements).

There is another new map coming out on the 19th (earliest), and it is listed that new Mechs will come out every 19th with new hero 'Mechs every 5th. Additional variants are said to come out but have no set dates.

In my opinion, if there was more foresight, PGI should have announced the starting year to be 3047, so that this would be 3048, giving them the time necessary to really hash out the game and inner sphere conflict before adding in the clans.

However once the game is a bit more mature it is believable that maps and Mechs will roll out at a much more brisk pace.

gotta say did my first match and im happy. i hope they ad more game play modes in the future but i can not complain especialy a free to play. I can definatly see myself putting money into this one.

if they ever get my Vulture and Madcat in there i would drop cash for those lol, at least my Awesome is a option (my usual mechs of choice in the older mechwarrior games)
suprised no bushwaker in the game though.... fell in love with that baby in MW3.

One last question for everyone, did my first match sucked horribly i "scored" 4 points i belive (max player was at like 50) i got 450k c bills, i heard that first 25 matches you get a "boost" then i also heard its a 8mil bonus AFTER the 25 is completed.
Which is it? bonus during 25, or bonus after?
and anyone have specifics on C-bill winnings? increased based on score? increased by winning? etc etc

your first 25 matches earn you a bonus. This bonus starts large and then gets smaller over time until match 26 when you receive none.

C-bill earnings is not based on Match Score. you get a specific amount for winning, kills, captures, components destroyed, and scaling rewards for assists, damage done, salvage, and resource bonus(conquest mode)

Players that had already played 25 matches when the bonus wen into effect got a flat one time 8mil bonus.

You should easily have 8mil to buy and modify a good mech with after 25 matches.

In response to your previous comment, the vulture and madcat are clan mechs and won't be accessible for a while. They'll probably also be around 15 mil (Vulture) to 25 mil (madcat).

That is assuming we'll be able to drive them at all.
