The other issue I have is there is no indication that a shutdown mech is starting back up. Half the time, the mech has automatically decided to start back up when I hit the power up key, only to have my mech shut back down and me wondering WTF is going on. The simplest fix for this would be an audio cue. It could be a simple power up sound the mech makes, but it needs to be distinctive enough to be heard while a battle rages around you.
I have yet to get a heat indication that I am going to shut down either. Maybe I run too many heat weapons and blow right by the warning zone, but I haven't gotten a warning. I go right into auto-shutdown.
The current system is bad all the way around, but it has a VERY simple fix. Give a 1-2 second delay at max heat before shutting down the mech. That way you can ensure the pilot gets a heat warning, and gets the opportunity to hit over ride if they so choose.
(This is also human-computer interface 101. )
1) Event happens
2) Ensure user is consistently given notification of event (this isn't always happening)
3) Give user opportunity to act on event (this is also not happening, as the user has to decide before the event if they are going to react to the event)
Giving a 1-2 second delay at shutdown heat levels would accomplish ensuring the user got the event notification and giving them the opportunity to act on it. Please reconsider this system as its current state is very frustrating, and the point of this game is to have fun, right?
