Now that can be offensive. We all have our beliefs and I suggest you respect them. The tweet was not a big deal but calling someones beliefs fairy tails? Thats ridiculous and totally uncalled for.

Do you believe in Thor?

Why? Respect is earned by deeds, and those sects had millennia to show why they should never be respected. I'm happy we left the times behind where disrespect for those sects ended in a death sentence. Nobody cares what everyone believes. Coming forward and asking to "respect my/his/her beliefs" is uncalled for.

I agree heartily, I respect the right for people to HAVE beliefs not the beliefs themselves.

Not being a asshat and respecting something are not inextricably connected. Hell I can not be a asshat while not respecting things.

This thread will probably be one of the longest threads the forum has seen in a month.

Religious flamewar incoming!

Easier to do if you follow a Native American faith than some others. :)

Yet most organized (if not all) claim they are the one true religion thus deeming the others as "myths".

As for OP, how can you tell his text was cynical? It seems to me that was just the way you read it. I don't think either tweet was being disrespectful and if it is offending you then you really really need to grow some thicker skin.

I'm perfectly willing to take my chances, odds seem to be with me, but that's just logic and science talking and well what have those ever accomplished right?

Logic explains the excistence of God. There is no logical explanation that man can make that explains how we came together at this moment. The complexity in just some of our simple organs is amazing. Take out brains for example. We still do not not know everything about our bodies yet they just came together? It makes no sense. Being created by some sort of intelligence does.

Yes in the form of a Iconic personage embodying feats of heroism strength and lessons to be learned from the sagas.

So it is written in the Eddas.

Yeah, but the point is that guy probably doesn't and thinks he's a fairy tale myth.

if this is going to be a flamewar, then i hope this thread gets locked and i apologize for causing a great stir

i just wanted to point out, that making joke is okay - but comenting on it in the way it happend just seems cynical

and Agent of Change did say it very very well:
"I agree heartily, I respect the right for people to HAVE beliefs not the beliefs themselves."
that's how we should treat each other!

I will be outright and say that I am a Mormon. We have been the most persecuted religion in this country yet we did nothing. Our tithing goes to those in need and we are one of the first to be there during natural disasters.

His (or her) parents made that person through known biological processes of sex, birth and growth. You have parents, right? You came from them - it's very logical and reasonably well understood. Granted, we don't know 'everything' about our bodies, but we certainly know enough to tell you, in general terms (and extremely specific terms if you want to get into the science of biology), how a person comes into being.
