Okay, so obviously no one would disagree that the matchmaker still has its issues. Due to any number of reasons it has trouble matching up similar weights, skilled players (elo), etc leading to matches that really wind up being no fun for either side. It's great when you pull off that 5 or 6 vs 8 match for a victory, but that certainly isn't what happens the majority of the time.
What I propse is basically a stop-gap measure to just ensure that the matches are more balanced in the end without giving the down team any outright advantage in a manner that hopefully can't be gamed. What if we introduced a respawn mechanic for that team?
Personally I would set it up so that you couldn't tell which player would respawn outright. I would also make it so that it applies only to empty slots and disconnects before the match begins. It would first be determined by weight class of the mech to keep things fair, then further determined by closest ELO pilot in that class, as not to encourage suicide tactics.
Matches would wind up being 8 vs 8 all the time, leading to less imbalance in firepower brought to the table. Overall I see that as a positive, but still leaving the down team at a disadvantage due to only having the fewer number of pilots active at a given time. Not only do they have less active players, but the respawned mech also takes time to get back to the engagement. This respawning, however, could also be used to your advantage if you're a bit devious, but I feel the slight advantage would only make it about equally balanced to starting with an 8 man team.
If your base is being capped and if no one is able to respond in time and if your team hasn't used its respawn yet, assuming you were paying attention to that and figured out the missing weight class and happen to be the nearest/only ELO player in the weight class of the missing player - then you could get yourself killed to respond to the threat. I think this would be annoying enough to pull off that its a really minor advantage.
Overall, I don't think that this would do much more than bring a fairly certain loss back in line with being a pretty fair match. This would add enjoyment for the short manned team and lead to more accurate ELO scoring due to not getting rolled because of a couple disconnects.
Note: I forgot this earlier, but I would not track data for the respawned mech. Anything that happened before they died would get tracked like normal, but since the new mech is basically a balance freebie, whatever was done in it would not help/hurt your ELO, K/D ratio, BV, DMG, Kills, Assists, etc. You're getting a chance to have a balanced fight, no need to add other perks/advantages.
6 Vs 8, Disconnects, Etc: Solution?

Everytime I read "respawn" in a paragraph about proposed changes , I stop reading. You'll get your COD mode in dropship mode, it is being worked on. Have patience.
Also if you start off down two adjust tactics because the wins against 8 players when you have 6 players are always great memorable wins

No need to be childish. It's not really a true respawn per se, just not sure what to call it exactly. I agree the 6 vs 8s are certainly memorable victories, but I don't think it justifies the other 9 out of 10 matches where you lose by like 6-8. I personally dislike the idea of a respawn mode as such, I think each mech should matter.

I don't see this happening enough for coder time to be spent on a new feature to 'counter' it. The 7v8's I drop into, honestly, it's a 50/50 who's going to win - besides it's a bit of a fun challenge. The 6v8's I agree, no fun and it's the side short on players that loses.
Just checked, my stats say I've dropped into over 2000 matches. I can count the number of 6v8's I remember happening on one hand.
For now I say wait til PGI has the client a bit more stable state, then if we continue to see 6v8's happen, maybe it'll be time to invest some programmer hours into a new feature like OP suggests.

Not being childish , just voicing my opinion that I'm tired of seeing respawn idea threads, just like your voicing your opinion for suggesting a respawn mode to curb dropping light.
As I stated before the devs has said they are working on dropship mode for the future which would include respawning. Obviously that mode isn't done yet, so my point about people making threads about any type of respawn system appear out of thin air is these types of threads are not needed.
Are people who make these types of threads expecting a dev to read their thread , post in the thread "that's a great idea, it'll be in next month's patch and you will get a gold star on your chart".
The devs have other things to code/create that are more priority. These types of threads are supposed to be posted in the suggestion fourm.

Some of my favorite matchs have been when I ended up on the smaller team and we still won.
Dunno, think it focueses the plaeyrs a bit mroe and what not. I don't think it's a huge problem personally, though I can see why some would find it irritating. *shrugs*

That appears to be a large part of the problem. The thread was locked for some reason but the issue seems to be d/c's and file modifications that allow people to have been connected but not loaded into a match creating uneven teams.
It doesn't appear to have anything to do with Elo, respawns won't help it, and a file checker would go a long way to resolve it.
