Lots of folks are asking for a proper lobby for MWO ... that would be nice. However, what the community might be able to use are multiple entry modes.

1) Instant Action ... essentially matchmaker controlled exactly as is currently implemented ... including folks dropping in groups.

2) Player composed games. Allow one player to be a designated overseer ... team leaders - representing their entire team would join his command ... the overseer clicks a check box for which leader is team 1, which is team 2 and which map ... then presses the launch button sending the entire chunk of data to the game server in a manner similar to the current match maker. Everyone involved has to voluntarily group up ... the team leads have to join the overseers command. It should require only small additions to the Social UI to allow formation of commands (or super groups ... collections of teams) ... and then a screen for launching games. Team balance ... number of players on each side ... total mech weight ... map ... all player controlled ... which would allow for the players to run any sort of tournament they wish.

The only reason not to allow player created matches is if there is some plan to monetize tournaments/competition/ladder ...

A feature like this may be planned as part of the Community Warfare package ... if so I would suggest that it might be worthwhile moving this piece of functionality up in priority both for field testing and to address certain community concerns.

#2 ONLY if they don't count toward ELO or grant cbills. anything else would be too easy to abuse.
