I've played Alpine dozens of times now. If your team decides not to do the "fight at epsilon" its will turn into a cap match with your team strewn across the map with some small skirmishes. There is no time to wait for the slow 'mechs so they will get picked off. Alpine needs the resources doubled for conquest at least but what Alpine really begs for is a mode with no caps. Call it "deathmatch" if you like. That way you can set up a tactical position and put your scouts to work instead of just dancing around the map capping points.

LOL

Remove the bases and every match will be 15 minutes long with slow Fatlases trying to find each other and/or powered down/ECM light mechs. I can hear the crying about lost Cbill income now...

I have no real problem with "Alpine Peaks", aside it looks like crap compared to every other MWO map. I would like to see the "Assault" mode have the base cap function removed. Or make it an attack/defend scenario. Regardless of whether you know where the enemy is or not, most mechs are too slow to respond in many situations. Maybe if you're playing an 8 group you can coordinate better, but good design needs to factor more than that. Here are assault points, one team attacks, the other defends.

That or give me an option to select what map I play on. I'm tired of taking a brawler on a giant map.

I like big maps but I like big maps with more cover and some areas. Not just huge empty space.

So one more vote for TDM?

Mech speed is important. It's the reason that not everyone on the team should be in an assault. Personally I find having objectives other than find enemy/shoot enemy more interesting.

Just until they finnaly fix sight distances and put in 12 man teams for it.. Otherwise it's just too darn big... Spending the match just walking around the map in circles gets boring real fast.. Especially in the slower mechs...

So hows this sound.. we all just head for epsilon conquest point ( that small outpost in the north).. And when we all meet there we duke it out and get the map done with.. Sure the Leghmpers can do thier thing runnning all ove rthe place at 150 kph.. but for the rest of us just duke it out.....

Otherwise we are just gonna keep having matches where we talk politics or have a book club meeting while we cirlce the map like ships in the night..

Cause if i really just felt like goin out for a lazy stroll, i'll just put on my shoes grab a coat and walk the back 40 for a bit... otherwise it's just too damn big for current team size.. maybe when theres more mechs to split up and do something 2 pronged than sure..

but in the meantime ...
Lets all just head in the same direction for the brawl..

I see your game, but beware! We're on to you!

for Alpine i think they should increase the cap amount from 750 to say 1000 and increase from 15 minutes to 20

Let's make the maps even smaller instead. Then we can have two pointblank firing lines like an early 1800's battle, and just fling damage numbers at each other till we're all dead.

Imagine how awesome this would be when they implement crouching.

"Front rank, Kneeling! Rear rank, Standing! Come on Atlas, on your bloody knees!"

"Enemy at 90 metres, FAHR! FIX HATCHETS! FOR THE QUEEEEEEN!"

U want a longer more boring circle snoozefest.. sure like 8 mins wasent enough to walk around enjoy the scenery, and shoot absolutely nothing in the process.

They need to fix sight distance and up to 12 man team before they take those steps.. after those maybe the map wont be so gigantically boring. once the fix is in u'll be able to spot mechs at distance and move. and 4 more guys on the map means u dont have to walk around in just one big cluster.

Well, people wanted larger maps. I guess they didn't realize how slow mechs actually can be.
And most people are probably already using overengined mechs for the free DHS inside it and the extra twist speed...

The problem with all the maneuvering idea may be - the mechs are slow, you only got 15 minutes, and talking a walk with a mech is not very interesting. And we cannot adapt our mech to Alpine, because there are 3 other mechs with different requirements. Heck, we can't even adapt our so called "camo" to the map we play on.

Alpine Peaks is awesome and everyone who says different is wrong. I have spoken and the discussion is over.

Seriously though, I have yet to have a bad or boring fight on Alpine, be it conquest or assault. I cannot say the same for the older, tiny and claustrophobic clusterfrag maps.

Alpine is awesome (I think I mentioned this already) and we need more maps of that size or bigger. It is also a beautiful snowcovered mountain vista where you can practically feel the cold, crisp wind rushing between the peaks and over the mountain tops. Not ugly at all.

How about, no. Alpine is by far the best map because you are not limited to just a tiny area to manuvere in. Even slow mechs can get in great positions to have some nice long range fighting.

The problem with Alpine is not the map but the stupidity of the players. They would rather chase an half-dead mech across the map instead of doing a capp for 30secs -.- And because every noob wants to play an brawler Atlas xD

My Jenner and my Hunchs really love these maps. We have several threads in the forum where a buff to the mediums were discussed. I believe now that the meds don't need any buffs , just larger maps xD

Why do people insist on fighting wars in the 30th century using tactics used in the 18th?

Dunno, the 30th century ended 50 years ago, and I'm not quite that old. Beyond that, they don't. I have yet to see two teams line up across an open space from each other and take turns volley-firing.
