So typically I have been playing my Trenchbucket of late, trading off from time to time with my Marmot. I just bought an AS7-D since it was half off, and what mech warrior that has played some of the older games (and maybe TT) has not wanted to pilot an Atlas? I have it totally stock with now, aside from a paint job (PC Gamer, it is free so why not?)

I like that it is currently well rounded, but I want to try some other play styles. I have done brawler with my Marmot, and ranged support with both my Trenchbucket and some other chassis that I wound up not caring as much for. I want to try other "jill of all trade" builds, as well as... well... all of them really. Try to find out where I fit in with the Atlas, be it brawler, Jill of all Trades or some Ranged support styles. I do not want to be another LRM boat, as my Trenchbucket fills that role better than... well... nearly anything else, IMO. If you have a build that fits into the Brawler or Direct Fire Support play style, would you mind posting it here? The more information you give about where you put things, the more likely I am to try it out. I would appreciate your time spent, and let you all know what builds work best for me. Otherwise I will just keep dragging my PUGs down by being stock.

Oh, and if you have any advice on how best to work within the role on different maps, that would help as well.

You don't want an LRM Atlas. That is good. All LRM Atlas have my eternal pity.

I don't own 7D but what I run on my brawler RS is STD350, Endo, 16-ish DHS, 4xML, 1xAC20 and 2xASRM6.

Well, for brawling, I would check out the MadPanda guide - there's a really good brawler DDC in there.

The consensus seems to be that the ballistic slot should either go to a AC/20 (for close-in, but you can hit hard out to ~400), Gauss, or 2xUAC5. Opinions are divided on what combination of SRM6/SRM4/Artemis goes in the missile slots - mostly comes down to personal preference. Energy slots usually run LL/ML. I'm a fan of big engines on Atlai - mobility is always clutch and a faster turning speed is a nasty surprise for a medium or honorary medium that tries to circle you. I usually run 330s or 350s in mine, but opinions differ on this part too.

Personally I can't recommend the 2xUAC5 highly enough as a Jill of All Trades gun - they only have 60m less range than a gauss rifle and hit a lot harder. You'll probably want a ridiculous amount of ammo for those, though. I take 150 shots and still run out :D

My AS7-D (F)

I stuck with the 300 engine and you have 2 large lasers for long range fights, a couple of medium pulse, an SRM6 and an SRM4, and an AC/20 when things get too close. It also has 19 double heatsinks.

The heat is manageable but if it runs too hot for you, you can always swap out the AC/20 for a Gauss Rifle and reduce the leg armor a little for case.

Here is the Gauss version which runs much cooler - AS7-D (F) Gauss

It swaps out the AC/20 for Gauss and 3 tons ammo + case, changing the 2 medium pulse to 2 medium lasers and shaved half a ton of armor off the legs. Great at all ranges. This also has one more DHS, making it a total of 20.

Pretty happy with this build as brawler (so far only have basic skills, need to get 3rd Atlas for elite ones). Tryed to use ER PPC or ER LL to get some long-range firepower, but ended like this one - with 2 LPL in hands. Cant wait speed tweak, but STD360 itself gives pretty good mobility (as for Atlas surely :) ).

For an all round brawling build, and my personal favorite.

AS7-D

For sniping

AS7-D Ranged

Heat is very manageable on it.

Thank you everyone for all the different builds. Going to try many of them out as I build up my cbills and stores of weapons.

I've been playing my D with 2xLRM15 + Artemis and 3xERLL and wreaking havoc.

I play my D with 4x ML, 2x UAC 5, 2x LRM 10. I hit at all ranges, and usually end games with 700+ damage, win or lose.

I have found that ECM (i love it by the way) too often negates LRMs. I have changed to SRMs w/Artemis on everything to compensate. I lose punch in the "Firepower" area but get more hits overall.

What I have wound up for my AS7-D is 2xLL AC10 and 2xSRM6 w/ Artemis AMS . XL 350, DHSx13 and CASE for all the ammo since armour is down to 544 overall.

I don't get 1000+ damage but it is a good team brawler that can run away.... sort of.

Oh ya... and it's very pretty with tiger stripes to bedazzle opponents.
