A friend and I were discussing this the other day, the conclusion we came to wasn't to arm the base as such but it would be epic to have the base give out a counter ecm signal with a strength of 3. This would light up any ecm ravens or commandos stealth capping as LRM targets on e they started the cap. Also it's far from a stretch as each base should have a sensor array (imo) it certainly looks like it has sensors and comms systems.

Anything that counters a Raven's ECM I will accept happily.

If there was a real Assault game mode where one team defended a base and another team was the attacker I could see automated base defenses having a purpose.

Don't forget the 14 AMS, 3 Barracuda, 176 Heatsinks, and 636 tons of cargo storage (among other things). ;)

MW LL had nice defence system for bases. If you were prepared to knock them out and cap base they worked for you when they came back online.

Also be careful what you wish for if they introduce Calliopes from MW4, man they were a pain in the ***.

I agree with the OP and made a similar suggestion in the Beta Forums, hopefully something like this will be added someday I think it would be interesting. I also thought that perhaps AI tanks at the base or something like that might be fun. Of course anything like this would be probably be well after CW and the Clan Invasion.

Actually, putting a single calliope in a base would probably be about the right amount of defense. IIRC, a calliope has:
2x LRM10
2x Medium Pulse Laser
1x ER Large Laser

That's enough to make people think twice about idling around before taking it out.

MW4 and MWLL both had defense turrets, MWLL also had birds and turtles. I wish MWO had turtles too.

Actually having that Big ol' tank and having all the players (all 16 or 24) on the other side trying to take it down might be a fun mode also. I forget the name of the main guns, but they're anti orbit weapons. Same weapons used on capital ships. That can't track targets as small as a mech actually (though it's got plenty of other weapons)

They can't even make it so AMS doesn't fire through caves/tunnels/buildings... what makes you think they can make it so that the "automated base defenses" don't fire through your mech, to try and hit an opponent on the other side of you, from it?

Thought I read something in the Q&A that a Dropship Assault Mode is something they're considering.
