So I had this idea for a map. It's a medium - large map size. Both teams start at opposite ends of a Mech repair/maintenace facility. It is made up of multiple buildings, that you can go inside of, some are restricted to lights/meds only with a rooftop access that connects to other buildings via bridges (so as teams cannot just camp both doors waiting for the poor light mechs and adds strategic level of gameplay.)
The Inside would be darkish as the buildings have been powered down due to the fight over them so heat vision might want to be used here - or add some kind lights on to mechs that can be toggled on and off.

Each building has its own interior design, I.E Light repair shop, Ammo storage, etc.
Inside each have chassis of their respect mech classes in various stats of repair/maintenance. (Try to make this as obvious as possible that they are part of the terrain so newer players don't sit blasting scenery all day) You could also set traps by powering down and acting as one of these mechs - I know this semicontridicts the above point but it sounds fun at least

Now I did say this was a medium-big map size so the whole map is not just buildings so as not to make LRM boats totally useless. There will be avenues of attack between buildings and wide open parade grounds where finished mechs are placed and ready for action (Maybe do not place static mech models here for balance issues, it might scare the poor new guys or have someone standing there blasting away at them)

Also a few big Oil/Gas/Whatever mechs run on containers as well.

Just figured I'd put this out here and see what the community/Dev team thinks
Sadly I have no art skills and do not have any sort of "concept art" or design of this place.

Sounds cool.

From what I know about canon, I think there were a least a couple of battles fought over mech manufacturing facilities over the years.

Yes, but those massive guns on the walls and conventions kept it to a minimum.
Thankfully for us, they can't fire inside.

Sounds like fun to me. Interior fighting would add something new to what we already have.

Hopefully, we'll also get all 5 Solaris arenas... but this time, in their full glory. For instance, the Jungle arena belongs to Liao and it has beacons over it. You can shrink it to a quarter of the original size by pressing them. The Kuritan arena is a man-made cave and tunnel network with complete jam of electronics, making for one hell of an unpredicatble fight (altough we'd have to ban Splatcats for that one... :)). Steiner own the Colloseum, which is what it is and great for duels. However, it has raisable walls that can spice it up should it be needed. Mariks own the Factory which is basically what the OP is describing, but with elevators, ramps and multiple levels for each building. Lastly, you have the Davion arena, which is mostly utilised as a Boreal reach, being placed in extremely cold temperatures and mountain-tops.

There is certainly a lot they could do...

I like this idea - But I think there needs to be significant limitations:

- Repair should take a significant amount of time based on damage and mech weight. Like if you're severely damaged, you might be in there for 90 seconds or so.

- Additionally limit one mech at a time being repaired.

- Also most importantly - these facilties should be relatively easily destroyed, maybe after 100 damage or so. (any mech inside at the time will also be destroyed, whammy) Repair facilities would slowly repair itself over time if damaged, and would not be targetable by missile lock, but it would show up on the map/radar. (But maybe make it location somewhat dymanic so its rarely in the exact same spot)

don't wanna sound offensive but... did you even ******' read the OP?

@OP:
idea is nice. I am not sure though, if it is a good idea to limit light mechs to some of the buildings. It might seem like a nice idea, but i can see people hiding in there forever just to delay the outcome of a match or put it to a draw, depending on map size and surviving enemys, which would be fine if the associated "tactic" or "strategy" wouldn't be impossible to counter due to map restrictions

yeah - cool. The powered down mech surprising enemies with an ambush would be awesome. Would also make that power up speed skill worth while.

Ah good point I didn't think about that. I thought about the abuses of camping waiting outside, but not camping inside. Well maybe make the roof access able to lights only? There are plenty of mechs with Jumpjets, or so the roof can be sniped from other areas of the map but if being chased a light can use it to quickly escape or some such.

Thanks for all the likes and suggestions guys :)

To keep the lights from 'hiding' in a building where larger mechs can't reach, the building could have a large door that can open and close, just slowly so a light can't hide but can get away. Could be a pressure plate for only meds-*** or just on a timmer.

Great map idea.

great idea.

I want to see us spawn inside dropships and exit them too, we need more btech stuff like massive dropships, etc on the maps.
