Originally i built my CTF-4x to be a quad ac5 monster but after losing 1 of the cannons and equipping some short range weps i found that i can kill lights fairly well now.

I use alternate fire on cannons for ranges up to about 800-900m usually, and just unload missiles and lasers when they get within 270m.

Have you tried the 2x AC2 /2x AC5 build? That's what I use on my 4X currently, lets you sit in the back and plink away at people all day.

You are so gonna die from legging (very light armor on legs, all ammo there and no CASE)

I tried this for a few games, but could never take advantage of the crits as i did not get throught the armor fast enough. What are your experiences and maybe some advice?

be an opportunist and cover a big hitter. most of the builds I come up with are specialized roles for group play. I like to think of the mechs as ships, and in a fleet, or in this case group, every ship should be designed to fill a role that's not only functional to the objective but supports the weaknesses of other ships, or otherwise accentuates their strengths further. but i digress. I'm an oddball and most of my builds need an oddball mindset, if you don't like it I understand ^_^

also, I almost forgot to mention that that kind of mindset usually doesn't fly in a game with hitpoints and damage, because it becomes a damage race, so without restriction it really comes down to having the most hitpoints and damage output possible, and then just hitting the enemy first to win

On paper, the quad AC5 looks like the best DPS build by far.

What was the problem with it?
http://mechromancer....1,0,1,0,0,0,0,0

The two obvious flaws I see are speed and the ammo count, but man ... Heat is nonexistent at 13 DHS, and the DPS is out of this world - 11.76 DPS

I like to run a quad AC5 4Xwith 2 MLAS. its SLOW..... and I mean SLOW.... like 42kph, AFTER the speed tweak. lol Like Battlecruiser above, I tend to make support builds. With the 4X, its a second line area suppression mech. I"m usually right in the middle of the team as far as damage output, and I like to use it to push people out of position and take fire off of their target.

The AC5 may not do a ton of damage on chainfire (where I use it almost exclusively, I only alpha as a "Hello!!! " or an "OMG!"), but its almost guaranteed to make someone stop shooting my teammates and duck for cover when they hear the impacts coming in that fast. <tunk tunk tunk tunk tunk "what the heck" tunk tunk "is shooting" tunk tunk tunk "at me??"

I tried different variants of dakkaphract (4xAC2, 4xAC5, ac-uac-mix, LB10X, etc.).
And I've fond it starving of low-Alpha. Next - phract has verv-very wide arms, it's hard to hit targets from both arms simultaneously.

Finally I'm using 2xAC10, 2xML, SRM4, AMS included.
Groups are: left arm, right arm, SRM+MLs, MLs. So I'm able to make shots from cover. In close it can spam SRMs and lasers continiously.

Any suggestions about making Alpha on 4X better?
