Dreamt that I logged in, and saw a stealth patch. Upon loading the mechlab saw that there were no hardpoints and I could put anything I wanted anywhere per classic BT rules.
My founders atlas got jumpjets, and a standard 400 engine, and a few weapons.
Great mayhem ensued. :-)
And then I woke up.... /sad.
I Had A Weird Mwo Dream...

*Shrugs*
TBH, since they dumbed out the RnR system, I am glad that there is some sort of brake on building anything you want. The old TT system was supposedly balanced by cost and a Gamemasters discretion as to feasibility, availability. This of course seldom happened so we ran amok with any build we want.
That said, I think the Hard Point system was the one good idea Microsoft brought to MW. I just wish it were better defined. To make a non jump capable mech able to jump, for example, would require a massive degree of modification, not only adding reaction fuel bottles, but running the channels from the reactor, and to the exhaust ports throughout the mech. Add to that the need to reinforce the leg actuators, myomers and skeleton, which were not engineered with jumping in mind, and re-tuning/replacing the gyro to take into account the changes in balance, and the fact that some mechs are so poorly balanced to begin with (like the Stalker for instance) that jump jets would more than likely just end up replicating the fate of the Hindenburg on it.
Add that together, and you have a "modification" that would require a team of engineers, millions of c-bills in testing and months if not years to accomplish. (But yes, it would sure be fun!). Since they nerfed RnR which could have helped balance this some, if properly implemented, hard points will have to suffice. Want a jumping Atlas? Just gotta wait for the Highlander, I reckon. Simple weapon refits, are also not as simple as one thinks when one factors in power feeds, ammo feeds, internal bracing and even having to totally overhaul the targeting and diagnostic systems. That is the supposed beauty of OmniMechs...... that you can just flip a few bolts and insta swap.
Some things that ARE changeable rub me the wrong way though, like the Internal Structure, since that is the very heart of a mech, one doesn't just "swap" it out. IMO, only mechs designed with Endo should be able to field it. But I also readily admit, I use the heck out of it, since it is available.
(but yes, like any good Btech junkie, I haz plenty of home builds I would love to run)
