MW3 Command breifings,

I think it was one of the first situations where a CGI command briefing was both cool, slick and informative, showing you drone style evidence of troop movements through the area of operations, describing the terrain, I always felt the briefings in Mechwarrior 4 were a little generic and plasticy,
I.E. Here is the map, voice over description of the operation, which rarely provides any useful intel, whist you pick your 'Mech and lance mates.
A lot of my friends remember the cut scenes in C&C being awesome (they were very good for the time), but for me it was MW3 briefings that stood the test of time, come to think of it the whole game just felt 'right' you know, an orbital insertion gone wrong, naval laser batteries to destroy, a hit and run campaign and a desperate fight to a drop ship to get the heck out of dodge.
Am I alone in remembering this this way?

MW3 is definitely the best MW game I've played styling wise. Just got to hope MW:O can beat it

Me too, I'm really hoping for some real 'atmosphere'.

Earthsiege 1 + Expansion and Earthsiege 2 are very good mech games (though, they are called "Hercs" in ES). But Starsiege (Earthsiege 3) was pretty poor. I played a lot of it for the multiplayer support but it wasn't a good ES game.

Spot on, I remember trying to do the exact same thing, or more specifically cobble together whatever I could with whatever ammo or weapons I could find, I remember ammo being a real problem, looking back, also an awesome feature, if you're behind enemy lines you need to do what ever you can to get your weapons working.
I really miss that Bushwacker, working on the basis that I was always looking for that bigger tougher 'mech despite in, retrospect the bushy being an amazing piece of kit. Large laser, LRM's and an AC10 I vaguely remember packing quite a punch. (this was probably over a decade ago though so don't press my memory too hard LOL!)

I don't think it is yet, I am also aware that people are having real trouble with it on Windows 7, if you can find a copy though I highly recommend it.
Ironically I've played MW1, 3 and 4 but never 2 it was before my time and I can't find a legal download for it.

You missed out on the best one mate.
2 was the reason I bought a 3DFX Voodoo card with my hard earned savings when I was a kid
3 Was THE best Mechwarrior experience to date!
4 Was an abomination and to me they some how took a step backwards not forwards.
4 Mercs did try harder and I did like the Solaris bits but still didn't stan up-to Mechwarrior 3's brilliance
Mechcommander was the game that got me into Battletech and still play it every now and again on an XP laptop in compatibility mode.
Mechcommander 2 was good but to me not as good as the 1st
Its seems that when Microsoft got its hands on the franchise they cocked things up and then they brought out Mech Insult which was the last nail in the coffin

Yeah I know what you mean, it just made me sad when the game should have been getting better with better 'Mech 'tech etc. but the advantages of better 'tech, better PC's, Graphics cards, were completely negated for the wonder ment of making the game more 'accessible'
Accessible would be more stock mechs not dumbing down the game to the point where it felt like it was princes and princesses in space.
(don't get me started on MechASSault, pick ups? PICK UPS?? <- see you got me started, cool, it's cool, breath).
All I want to do is be fired out of jumpship in a dropship that lands on a planet in a commando raid and slit the bad guys throats whilst they sleep, is that so much to ask?
I'd settle for military style briefings with probe feeds and orbital intel if I had to, just not more irrelevant chit-chat over a load up screen and a bland map.
