The Fire Moth was the first 'Mech I ever piloted.

I was some scrub sibko trainee in the midst of the Great Refusal.
Back then my reading wasn't so great and I really couldn't figure out exactly what all my objectives would be or why I was fighting.

All I knew was they put me in a Fire Moth and made me run around while some Trueborn Warrior ranted a mesh of insults and instructions at me.

The pixelated landscape flew by as I diligently performed my drills. I ran places, I shot things, I shut down. I did whatever I was told. It was exhilarating. It was when I knew I was always meant to be a 'Mech pilot (well that in my finely crafted clan genetic code).

Once I could pilot other 'Mechs I never looked back. With Mad Dogs and Timber Wolves and Adders and even the Uziel.. I never needed to look back.

But the Fire Moth was my first. And always will be.

Boy it'll be great to strap into one of those again.

Who else out theres first experience piloting a 'Mech was a Fire Moth?
Who else knows what I am talking about?

Trust me, know one here is at a loss of what you are talking about. We all know or have a good idea of what the Fire Moth, or Dasher is. The thing I am wondering though, is why this is in MW:O general discussion, shouldn't this be in Clan discussion as it is not directly related to MW:O?

Are you sure?

I wasn't really talking about the clans - or even specifically how 'great' a 'Mech the Fire Moth was.
Talking about the games(specifically anyone who began their MW careers with MW2) and being nostalgic.

Hm... First mech I can remember piloting in MW2 was either the Nova or Marauder, firing ridiculous amounts of medium lasers or a couple of PPCs that shot gigantic, ridiculously slow-moving blue orbs of death. It's possible I hopped into the tutorial before doing a few instant action missions so those might not have actually been my first. Timberwolf was easily one of my favorites, and I always loved the way the mech lab announced the name of each mech...

I think I was like 7 at the time. Kids these days, starting younger and younger...

edit: lol another word for 'orbs' preceeded by 'blue' is censored.

Ok, I can buy Nostalgic. Admitably I came in on MW2: Mercs though I have dabled in MW2 my disc was scratched and did not go to deep into MW1.

For me, my first mech was a commando, though I remember the Bushwhacker so much more vividly as my 'first mech' :\

edit: Refuse to own or pilot commandos in MW:O

I love my Uziel.

Compared to the hunchback it was damn flexible and if we look at the mech it's probable fitting would be for the UZL-2S
L/R Arm: 1 Energy per arm
CT: 1 Missile slot
L/R Torso: 1 Ballistic slot per side
Endo Steel

It's quite a lot more advanced though since it has both Endo Steel AND Double Heat Sinks which really reduces what you can cram in there so it has a lot of limitations as well.

My introduction to MechWarrior included the words "Alpha Assault, what is your situation? Alpha Assault, please respond..."

I spent a lot of time tromping around in a Mad Dog and a Warhawk.

Ah the Fire Moth, those were exciting, if blocky, days. The Uziel is also a great little mech.

My first was the Marauder IIC from the MW2 Netmech demo before I even owned the full game, and it has been my favorite MW2 mech ever since. I still love the triple PPC slow wave of death attack, and the Tie Fighter style cockpit view. And of course never having to worry about running out of ammo is nice.

I did have a fun battle in MW2: Mercs once. I was in a Firemoth with two more as Starmates, and we were up against an Atlas, a Cyclops, and an Awesome. We managed to kill the Cyclops and Awesome, and had dis-armed the Atlas when it finally managed to land an AC20 shot on me. My poor little Moth was splattered across the planet after that...

The Mad Dog was the first mech I ever used, and it holds a special place in my heart, to this day. I played a demo of the defense of the Jade Falcon firebase at CompUSA when the game was brand new, and was totally blown away. My parents ended up buying me that game for my birthday a month or two later, which is when we just so happened to upgrade our computer to handle that beast of a game, lol. That started my whole addiction.

The first mech I ever piloted was a "gently used" Jenner. It really had the pew pew, and fired triangular missiles. The rifleman I was attacking didn't stand a chance. My favorite opponent was the marauder, the legs man, you could not miss 'em.

I played Mech Warrior 2 at a friends House. I was probably 10 or 11 and he had a pretty awesome computer and a joystick. I remember just being blown away by the interface! And then the tutorial missions were so immersive.

They had me at, "Freebirth".
