This.

Putting 100% of the blame on the person clicking the mouse when not all weapons have speed-of-light projectiles, and some (like lasers) are DoTs rather than instant damage is just plain ignorant.

Ricochet is the only truly fair way to implement a FF system in a game. You unload into your friend's rear CT, you take the damage on YOUR rear CT, leaving them unaffected.

This maintains the importance of careful firing, but makes mistakes or griefing a very real problem to the person doing it. What better way to hammer in that FF is a stupid mistake to make than making the fact obvious?

Ricochet, its FF that actually has an effect on the person friendly firing.

*Shrug*

Great, so when Mr.***** walks in front of me in a pitched battle and my X3 LBX10 hit him in his *** I get punished for his stupidity.

Great thinking there.

I would go with a XP penalty for FF or TK beyond a reasonable limit. lets say 50 damage. TK happens, and one should feel bad about it maybe he should also come out of the match with no XP and re-think his life as if he actually killed a member of his lance.

Well, but what about when some ***** kills himself by getting a full alpha in his ***? Can I give HIM the XP penalty I got because HE should feel bad for killing himself?

XP loss... sooooo exploitable.

All I have to do is run in front of someone who's shooting to make them lose xp?

If this were added how long until it becomes GriefWarrior:Online.

While yes someone who steps into ur LOF from ur blind spot should be their fault.. A fast mech that is circle strafing or chasing down an enemy mech should not..

If someone is engaged with an enemy at close range and you are at meduim to long range then the burden of fire control must be yours. After all they are in a hot and furious engagement While u are able see the everything goin on.. In this case u have to pick your shots better to hit the enemy while the friendly is not in harms way..

I dont know if u expect them to just stop and get slaughtered to death just so u can get your shots or what, but if u had a clear view of thier movements and kept firing into your teammate as they moved then it is by far your fault.. Somebody coming into LOF from the blind is one thing.. Somebody u can see and watch walking into LOF yet u keep shooting is Friendly fire..

Just because u want to sit at longer ranges and engage the enemy does not give you any kind of firing priority. If everyone carried this kind of sentiment in game then lots of teams would die faster because team movement and maneuvering would be limited by snipers LOF. Enemys would just rip apart that one guy pinned in by his own teammates Line of fire.. Guys would not be able to come out of cover to fire on enemys because of some long range dingles right to line of fire.

Supporting an engagement at longer ranges requires more discretion.. You have a much larger cone of fire and must be more respectful to friendly's that can fall into that cone much easier. They have a harder time seeing u than u can see them.. There is nothing in combat that guarantees you an unobstructed LOF..

TL:DR Learn to deal with it, open your eyes, pick your shots better, control ur fire and pull shots away from friendlys... The game wasent built just so u could have a private line of fire.

Just because u want to circle strafe at shorter ranges and engage the enemy does not give you any kind of firing priority. If everyone carried this kind of sentiment in game then lots of teams would die faster because team movement and maneuvering would be limited by lights / mediums circle strafing. Allies would not be able to focus fire becuase each time they try to a light / medium runs up to the target again. Guys would not be able to come out of cover to fire on enemys because of some light / medium's right to circle strafe.

I think FF is fine as is. Yeah you'll get greifers, but you'll get them everywhere anyway.

Been TKed once on accident as well.

^^ this.

The last TK i did was in a fierce brawl when suddenly a Jenner ran into a salvo of 2xSRM6 that was aimed at an enemy Awesome..
Upon realizing what just happened i immediately disengaged (of sorts) and chatted that i was really sorry, the guy just said "its alright, it happens". Still felt a bit meh for me but we ended up winning and everything was fine.

MWO renders a war going on, not fairys pointing silly sticks at each others! :)

edit: As for standing in the line of fire - (or effectively blocking it!) - situational awareness comes in handy, again!
