Show of hands who would like to see Mech's be printed out as action figures.

I'm as serious as the guy who wrote the article for the Trial by Fire sale.

Pop out a 6" tall Founders Catapult, a 4" Raven 4X, and a 7 or 8"Jagermech and ship them to me. I will send you a $300 cheque for per figurine.
So import those high polygon 3DS Max models into the AutoCads and print those buggers, PGI!
I reckon they should have rubber soled feet, and clear "look-in" cockpits. If you could.

PS: I suppose they do not need to have a working mini-fusion reactor pre-installed... but it would be nice... just... FYI. Love you guys! Please do.

Typically models for video games do not have closed sections in areas where the model will not be seen,

They would likely need to be redesigned in order to make a model that a 3d printer can use. This is a signifigant amount of work, and I don't think it would happen. In addition, I believe the license ofr those sorts of things is held by a different company that worlks directly with Catalyst.

Why not just buy the pewter Mini's.. Ironwind could make more museum scale ones of MWO style mechs perhaps

Having 3D printers would actually pretty much cinch the mini figures and action figures market. Huh. Never thought of that! Imagine printing off 20 timberwolf figures for like 7 bucks of material!

From what I've seen the material used in the printers is pretty darn expensive.
There's a bunch of places you can order 3D prints from directly if you provide them the correct type of file format.
The cost of doing such tends to be pretty high though. Some of the stuff I had printed up for a startup I was working for cost around $300.

shapeways can be pretty pricy. note that shapeways printed objects (and i presume most other online 3d print shops) charge you by the volume of the model.

When you scale a model to be twice as tall it becomes three times the volume.

I own a cubify, it would be rather pricey to do figures and then you run into the whole copy right issue if you want to sell them. I have not attempted to make a mech yet as I have been thinking do I go statue some sort of hybrid or a true action figure.

Time is also my enemy right now and I will tell you guys to do say a single arm for a atlas would be 5 hours roughly for it to print out it is not some magic device that rapidly creates whatever you desire.

I will one day make one for my own personal use.

I would almost prefer like a Bandai Japan or NECA quality action figure over a 3d printed model, but I would probably buy a 4-6" printed figure.

Yeah you can probably have a 1" or so TT sized model printed for a fraction of that price.

The prepping of the 3d model is done is a matter of minutes these day. a few clicks in zbrush or 3d coat and you can transfer to an enclosed mesh.

People usually use them as masters and the make their silicon molds from. Then make resin casts for the copies.

I think PGI needs to partner up with a manufacturer and start churning out scale models or figurines they would make a killing.

They do not have the license. And some other company has that license. It's probably never going to happen.
