So do you think you are safer outside the mech?
Besides, I wouldn't leave my mech for nothing.

Was the part where I said heli overlooked?

Besides a stationary mech with a sleeping pilot is just a big ol target for some enterprising infantry.

Many mechs do indeed have amenities of varying qualities. Others probably have little more than a command couch which can be reclined slightly at best due to space restrictions.

Take the Stinger, for example. Its cockpit has been described as so small and cramped larger pilots have trouble fitting into it at all. The Spider doesn't have room for an ejection seat. I don't think a toilet is an option in that one. Basically the bigger the mech, the better the chances you have at least basic amenities like toilets or compartments for rations like those mentioned in the texts Haruko posted images of. The pilots of the smaller machines likely would have to make do as best they could and catch some shuteie sitting in their command chairs though.

And yes, some mechs are indeed designed to operate for extended periods in hostile territory and behind enemy lines, so it would only make sense for such machines to have the necessary facilities for their pilots.

Not when you're that guy from Medicopter 117 or wahterver was that German series called.

Not every helicpter is a millitary attack chopper. :P

Also, here are two fan-made cockpit iliterations:

FD's (notice the thing in the lower left corner :P):

There is a great official pictuire of IS cockpit interior on the 6th page of Handbook House Liao: http://bg.battletech...iao_Preview.pdf
I couldn't find the picture on the internet and neither do I own the book to copy it, so I can't directly link it, but it's hard to miss, really.

So I remember reading a while back that some mechs have small sleeping quarters, but I don't remember it naming specific models.

Does anyone know of any? I love the little details about mechs, and I really wish we could see more cockpit details in game.

Heh, good one. No some 'Mechs have a jumpseat which is just a folding chair attached to a bulkhead for carrying a single passenger. They are uncomfortable and can even be dangerous to ride in if the 'Mech is in combat as unless the 'Mech as a full head ejection system, the poor passenger does not get to punch out with the pilot should the need arise. A 'Mech cockpit is a very cramped place to be for the pilot. Sucks to be a passenger. That said, the small open space where the jump seat can fold down can probably be packed full of goodies for extended operations as long as they are all tied down.

Here's a week's supply of food (minus the dinner plates and/or bowls). It can probably be easily stowed away in a glove compartment sized bin, doesn't require refrigeration, and probably doesn't "require" a microwave to reheat (also you're probably going to be eating them right out of the box/pouch). Your drinking water over the same period of time will take up more space (and no, drinking your heat sink coolant is not an option).

Oh man, have you ever had MREs? Believe me, if I had the choice between paying an extra 200 spacebucks so I can get a minifridge and microwave for my space Hot Pockets OR a little box for MREs, I'd be throwing C-Bills at the 'Mech dealership for the luxury model. It's a matter of comfort, really.

It's one of the better cases. Body parts all around are not uncommon when you get hit by an AC.

You could say I was raised on MREs. The point is, these 'mechs aren't luxury RV's or motor homes. We're not going out camping in them, we're fighting battles in them. We're not spending any more time in them than necessary, but the necessary time may not be easily defined. You definitely don't want to keep perishable food or drink in there. (Good lord, now imagining being stuck in a cockpit with spoiled milk or finding out that your beer went stale) And that is why MREs are the best. They don't go bad (in any appreciable amount of time), and they have the caloric requirements to keep you going in the battlefield. (Also, they could serve as a "motivator" to get you to finish your mission and get back home for some real food/drink)

None of the canon novels mention a cockpit with a bed, in several places pilots even complain about not being able to keep the hatch open without being rained on. Several mentions are made of jumpseats, simple fold down seats in the back of the cockpit. Command Consoles and second comm officers are the rare space exceptions. I picture the jump seats being like the fold downs I used flying MAC in the back of an in-flight refueling aircraft, not a happy place to be.

Verified by searching all occurrences of "bed", " bed", sleep in conjunction with cockpit, etc. in the text of the books.

Also they have fold out beds.

And in case anyone makes the mistake of thinking this is some random text off Reddit again, this is from one of the Official Battletech Core Rulebooks, the Tech Manual.

re-quoting for accuracy. I want to be able to roleplay living in my mech...like the sims. We demand it!
