Even if you know the heat buildup on specific maps it's useful to confirm it before you get into combat, I do it all the time. Of course I aim away from friendlies while doing it. It also helps to show the team what kind of weapons you have so no-one will try to get a sniper to move into brawling range or something.
If you shoot it's your responsibility to make sure you don't hit your teammates, we can't read your mind so we don't know you intend to alpha at the start of the match.
I don't shoot people in the back, if I test my weapons I do it aiming as high up in the air as possible. The only way I would hit one is if something like an Atlas tried to hug me while I did it.
And no, it's not just the shooters responsibility. People who run into friendly fire are just as much to blame (I do this myself often when chasing people, I run into friendly fire and it's entirely my fault).

If he dosnt say sorry i turn around switch on heat view look who is glowing and he gets a nice little present.back. Untill today they all took their punishment without shoting back. Cause most of them know they messed up!
FYI the person shooting and you do not have 0 ping. As a result you do not always see the same hits.
If you did that to me after my screen told me I didn't hit you then I would consider you the aggressor and may fire back.
