Hello all. Looking at getting my feet wet in this new MW game, and so far seems good. I'm a fan of the old, but never really die hard, so my knowledge base is limited. Before I ask this, I have indeed tried to find the answer myself, but will little results. My Mech of choice has been Thor for long as I recall. Being that my Mech has yet to make his appearance, hoping I might get a push I'm the direction I seek. From my readings, looks like the Hunchback is one possibility.

The closest you are going to get is the 3D Cataphract, as it's a heavy with jump jets. If it's sheer ground speed you are looking for, and don't care about jets, you'd have to go lighter. The Thor (Summoner) generally has a mix of ballistic, energy, and missiles, which few mechs at this point have.

Also of note, Clan mechs and technology are not currently available. We are currently using the heavier, bulkier (and often less powerful) Inner Sphere technology.

As a side note every mech that we know will be in the game can be found here. One mech is usually announced per month.

Which config did you mostly use?

I mean, the Clan mech should techincally become available during March, but that is highly unlikely.

For the mix of ballistic/missle/enery/speed you may consider a Dragon, it will never have the punch a thor does, nor will it jump if thats your thing. But you can probably tweak to feel familar.

The Hunchback is much lighter than the Thor, but as far as looks goes, it does look like a Thor...

If you want something that will pay like a Thor, then a Cataphrat might be a better choice.

Thor is a clan mech, and the clan invasion hasn't really started yet. You probably won't see a Thor for a while now, depending upon how they release the clans.

Dragon could also work too as a try. I'd make a poor man's summoner/Thor, but might be a nice ride for you.

Thanks for the info. I was to say the least a bit disappointed to see no clan Mechs, to say the least, but think the concept which they are trying is interesting. I might try and hold out for it's arrival to the field, but from everything I've read here, which is causing my eyes to bleed lol, hints at it not happening.
As to what load out I used, I can't even begin to recall. Too long ago and too much head trama I'm afraid lol. Guess I'll start looking at this Cataphrat. As to the hunchback, I noticed it was a weight class lighter which is why I came asking. Thanks

The clans are coming, we just don't know how they are coming, or when yet. Consider this training till then, so you can be as well trained as a true born clan warrior.

The Dragon is currently the closest thing we have to a Summoner. The Cataphract shares the same 70-ton weight bracket, but it doesn't really fight like a Summoner at all - most Cataphracts rely almost entirely on ballistics rather than the balanced armaments of a typical Summoner configuration, and the machine is typically a brawler of average speed at best rather than a mobile, multirole striker like the Thor is.

This particular Dragon mimics the Summoner Prime's armament fairly closely. Obviously Dragons are not OmniMechs (though the distinction is kinda hard to see given how easily we can customize IS chassis in this game anyways), but it's got the same(ish) top speed as a Summoner and only lacks cluster rounds and five LRM tubes off the Summoner's armament. You don't have jump jets either, but there's only so much ye can do with a Dragon.

This CTF-3D variant is about as close to the basic Summoner chassis as you can get. It's slower and doesn't have any missile hardpoints, but it's not too much slower and it does retain the Summoner's jump jets. I left it unarmed because the CTF-3D can't really closely mimic any of the Summoner's traditional configurations, and because frankly it's easy enough to just treat it as 31 tons of pod space anyways. Heh...note that typical CTF pilots will yell at you for days over putting an XL engine of any sort into a Cataphract, but that's what the Summoner's got, so hey.

Either way, PGI's said they're close to a final build on how they want to handle the Clans, and since the invasion is beginning in earnest oh...right about now, canonically...they're going to have to answer the question soon. And, hopefully, start releasing a few of everybody's favorite ol' podswappers - really looking forward to the Nova, m'self.

Also look at the Cataphract-2X it doesn't have jump jets but it can run the same load-out since it has energy, ballistic and missile slots. Also if you are willing to drop down to medium mechs then the trebuchet 5J or 7M would have roughly the same play style just lighter and no ballistic hard point.

I agree, the rough equivalent is going to be the CTF-2X, ER-PPC, LB-10X, LRM-15. Might as well add artemis too since clan launchers were supposed to be "better" along with being lighter and having no minimum range. Probably need double heat sinks and endo steel to get it all in. It will be fragile with the 350 XL engine.

If you're still going for a clan mech, a stalker with 4 ER-PPCs and a LRM10 could be a poor man's Warhawk. Few mechs currently in the game match up well with Clan models from the 3050s.

I played around with the 2X and the treb in the mech-lab. CTF-2X , all the guns but no Jump Jets. Then the Trebuchet with jump jets but no ballistic slot TBT. The The treb would probably be a better high mobility striker IMO. I didn't add Artemis but it might be a good thing to make room for.
