Suggestion: Make all units NOT identify the mech type instantly. Give tentative ID's till you've had so many seconds of unobstructed observation of the enemy unit.

Where modified/custom units are involved, do NOT ID the weapons until they've been fired.

Enemy Pilot ID: Do not ID the enemy pilots unless they use a all Frequency audio Broadcast, or you've encountered them in the past.

We want the "fog of war" to be as realistic as possible. I don't want to unstantly know who's the lance leader on the opposing team from in game. I don't even want to be able to get their name, and google it to find their Merc Corps leaders.

If I'm running a lance of all Atlas's(lol I know.. I know..) I don't want the enemy to know who's the lance leader just by looking at my name/rank floating over my mechs head.

I like the idea but I think you ought to get some basic weapon ID before people shoot just based on a visual scan with more specific info coming after first shots perhaps.

And that's the role for the scouts.. :) Let the scouts go in, and get those visuals and relay that info back to the rest of the Lance Mates via lance level intel dispersion.

Tentative ID's on weapons should be along the lines of Medium laser. It could be a Medium, and ER, a Pulse, an ER Pulse.... so on.

The game will probably never directly tell you what weapons the enemy is using. It's redundant, since you can simply see them in action anyway, and the UI is gonna be cluttered with info already from your own weapon information, your cursor, your armor display, enemy targeting data, heat and speed readout, etc, etc.

About IDing the models of the enemy units, and the pilots themselves, MW4 handled this fairly well; at long range, your radar would pick up a simple contact, and you'd be able to tell if it was friendly or not. Closer in you might get it's weight class. Geting a proper ID would require direct LOS identification. Tracking the enemy's armor ratings would require constant direct LOS. Also, IIRC, you never saw the enemy pilot's names except on the scoreboard. Might be wrong about that tho, been a long time.

Don't know which MW4 you played, because it ain't the one I played...
I like the idea of not getting an ID on the enemy 'Mech until you have LOS, though. It seems to make sense within the canon - they rarely seem to have positive ID on what a contact is until they actually see it. I do think they could work in an analysis of the enemy 'Mech's loadout, though - (Single player) MW4 incorporated a weapons readout for enemy 'Mechs once you had line of sight on them that also let you know if those weapons were damaged or destroyed. It fit right into the targeting display, and with the addition of actually saying where the weapon is (that seems like it would be there, and I'm not sure why MW4 didn't have it) I think it would work great.

Better yet make it true to BT lore and make it so if you do not have proper electronic sensors if LoS is broken you just lost your enemy contact. Other factors could be accounted for too, IE mech heat a hot mech is easier to spot on thermal sensors, an assault mech is easier to detect with seismic sensors, ext. Battlemechs featured a slew of electronic detection capabilities why not try and utilize them to the fullest so its not just a repeat of stock MW4. I loathed the BAP+ECM now while active I see you 1200 out unless you have ECM.

I like the idea of working in electronic warfare. Gives a reason for 'Mechs like the Raven to be on the field.
