Anything with more than 30 LRM Tubes is a "LRM-Boat" !

In general I agree with the points being brought up in this thread.. but I have to agree that forced mech selection is a valid balancing factor for consideration. I dont agree that it is a particularly good balancing factor but in principle it could work to balance it if the forced selection was so poor as to make taking the **** mech with ecm a difficult choice. That currently is not the case, if you are running a light the hands down best choice is anything with ECM.

I agree that making equipment only available to certain variants in order to make them more viable.
I would like it if BAP, AMS, and ECM were all set to canon variants (and maybe a couple others to set up diversity/offset dynamic change challenges)

however when you make a piece of equipment so powerful that simply by existing (or existing in greater numbers on one side), it changes the outcome of a match.. that simply can't be balanced as it is...
