Hey PGI, is it possible to setup a website where people can bid in money for a Beta key and all the proceeds goto Child's Play Charity? However many keys you'd see fit. Just an idea.

I like giving to charities. And this charity is gaming-focused!

I feel bad that it's a little late. I don't know how hard it would be to put together a system that allowed forum members to bid and then subsequently ensure payment before a Beta key is delivered. They would have to understand too, that like the others, being under NDA meant that if they broke the NDA, they could still lose access to it.

But I figure it's a good way to turn that anticipation into money for a good cause :P

I think as awesome as an idea it is, it can set a bad president for people to want to buy keys as an access to the beta. I think good things to auction off might be a signed poster or some other cool swag that isn't linked directly to the beta.

That's actually quite a good idea. Making it an auction means it's a very limited number and doesn't override Inception.

There's truth that it could set a precedent, but Beta keys are limited time offers, which imply a sense of value in and of itself. A signed poster would have rarity, but would be something that could be done at any time.

The point of this was that people would put up a lot of money to get a key, and even though it's understandable that such a promo would benefit those with money to blow, the reason why it's catered to such people is because in the end, we want people to spend lots of money, because it means we get more money for the charity.

Well yes as an idea I think it's cool. Personally I'd try to bid on one (as long as it wasn't too much.) However there are already those who try to sell their beta keys on sites and I find it terrible that this kind of thing occurs. If keys are sold in any way, even if it's for charity, I feel it will be used as a flimsy pretext to justify something that I feel is fundamentally wrong.

However I think the idea of supporting the charity is awesome, and I feel it would be a great move to show some support with some cool MechWarrior swag. I just think the concept of selling beta keys especially when there are probably a lot of other cool things the company could have auctioned off that people will bid on might be a better path to take.

Just my 2 cents though, since I generally worry about that kind of stuff.

That's completely out of line, and totally unacceptable.. :(

(So.. BTW where are these "sites" you mention... ?!?)
