An Atlas LPL Boat. Joke or potential death machine?

Left arm is a potential bomb with the AMS Ammo. I am by no means a wizard at design, but CT or a leg seems better for ammo. Not my cup of tea but it would be a bit scary, and the LPL sound effects are nice.

If you downgrade the engine to a 300 and drop 1/2 ton of armor you can add 2 SRM6s and 2 tons of ammo. More short range punch, and the 325 to 300 engine drop doesn't seem too significant. You'd have to run it both ways and see whether the extra speed is worth the extra punch.

Just spent 3 milI just to try it. Quite fun haha. Shoved in a 350 engine, 4 lpl and the rest double heat sinks. Chain fire, heat goes up 5% per shot. Was running at 63kph, no more of this slow slug movement. First test, 1 kill 5 assists. 350 ish damage.

edit:

2nd test.

0 kills, 8 assists, 500 damage. I got into trouble by going past the boat in the water. I was able to high tail it outa there without a prob or loss of systems. Jenner and Trenchbucket tried to harass me, but my chain fire lpl kept them at bay and they ran off for easier target.

IMO, fun to play but not practical since you depend on your team.

I made it faster, at zero cost to either heat or survivability.

I think a stalker might be a better choice though. :3

Only change I'd make is the first change, move the ams ammo to the leg. It looks... nice otherwise.

Head is ALWAYS the best place for MG and AMS ammo. Cockpit destruction is a very rare event(especially on the Atlas). Engine coring is responsibile for 99% of mech deaths.

I tried this for a little bit. Ultimately the 300m effective range cap feels too prohibitive. I'm running this now;

joke. you have 13 crits free, totally wasted. drop a hs, take endo, take a bigger engine, and put the hs you dropped in the engine

and if you drop the ams, you can cram yet another dhs in
http://mechromancer....1,0,1,0,0,0,0,0
though if you'd rather keep it, again you can have equivalent # of DHS, but move a good bit faster

case in the RT is largely unnecessary. the gauss rifle explosion is only 20 damage. it's not like ammo explosions that are often over 100 damage

case doesn't stop the damage from affecting the RT, only stops the spillover to CT. a 20 damage explosion isn't going to spill over much into CT, when you consider the atlas RT has 42 internal in the first place. hell, it's not unusual for the RT to survive the gauss explosion outright. your case will typically be preventing <5 damage if any.

When I was mastering the Atlas, I ran my RS with 4 LPL, 2 srm6, plus a machine gun. It was pretty legit. 70 alpha is nothing to scoff at. After a couple of alphas you're reduced to only using 2 LPLs plus srms to keep heat down, but it's not too bad. If I had more mech slots I'd buy it back.

I ran a 4 LL RS during closed beta. With the reduction in head on the pulse I am sure they are viable now. Currently, I run a 4 PPC w/ Gauss on my RS

Just for you OP, video of my 3rd match from last night. As I said before, it's fun to play, but it lacks the oomph of a well placed alpha shot. You will not carry the match with this setup. You will die if you go toe to toe with a brawler assault. Sorry about the video and song editing, I literally was interupted by my wife and kid every 5 min trying to piece this together.

You really should put your left and right arms on separate weapon groups. So many wasted shots from firing the wrong arm at the wrong time. Also you look like you could get away with firing 2 LPL at once and by putting them in to 2 separate weapon groups you could take advantage of that heat efficiency (be sure to have a 3rd group on chain fire just in case though)

I'll try the groupings if I ever re-visit this build. I played it for 3-4 matches as a demo. Basically load and go lol.
