Yeah, just had a couple of games with surprising number of people sayin' that if someone does propose a 1-on-1 duel and someone agrees, the others would hold fire until its over. Its not anythin' that I expect to be followed too often but this is also goin' with the fluff of Battletech in a way, where in principle they were trying to have it be gentleman/honorable knight-style of code and etiquette. (granted, in practice this would be rarely followed, but it was there)

Also, I would say this should be most likely used mostly when there's only one Mechwarrior left on one team.

Anyone else this would be a neat idea or somethin' to try and propose once in a while in a match for the fun of it? Sure, the underdog player will likely be just killed by the others but still.

Other pieces of Mechwarrior etiquette can be posted here, fluff or otherwise.

Feel free to move this topic if ya want.

Just remember, if they jump jet over their opponent's head, its thunderdome and you are free to shoot your friends in the back.

+10 nerd points to anyone who gets the reference.

I've only ever seen a dual once. I didn't realize it and started firing, but they said what they were doing and I backed off. I respect people who want to dual. it's fun.

Other etiquette? There isn't much. glhf or something at the beginning of the match, gg at the end of the match. Don't FF or face the consequences. I certainly hope that more gets established as time goes on.

If you call out a Kurita mechwarrior to prove that their whole Samurai culture is overblown and they aren't really hot pilots after all, then your enemies should not gang up on you once the duel has been arranged. It's bad manners. Also, ask your team not to interfere... unless the enemy cheats.

It's a team vs team match - trying to have a private 1vs1 competition in the middle of match is like 2 basketball players calling each other out and expecting the rest of their teammates to stand on the sidelines.

It's ridiculous and shouldn't happen - doing so is disrespectful of all the other players in the match - it's self-serving bad manners.

Was mostly meanin' this being applied when there's only one Mechwarrior left on one side.

Not clan, not Kurita, not in solaris. So, nope don't care about dueling...I might respect if everyone else does but I see it as you are wasting my time.

?

And what about the seven other enemy mechs that are twidling their thumbs? Did they just become non-targets?

Be happy that it narrows the odds. 1v1 at least makes it easier to not be a total roll. Not by much, but still.

All is fair in love and war, and I love war.

You propose to dual, my responce is to have my team mob you.

Part of me can relate to the entertainment value of that particular situation - however as Baltasar pointed out, at best some are going to see it as wasting their time(in a 4 to 8 vs 1 situation) and at worst your going to have folks using this as a way to exploit a victory out of a 2v1 or 3v1 situation on top of wasting folks time.

1 vs 1 challenges sounds like a great suggestion to be officially implemented as another type of map - trying to unofficially push it into match play is just asking for drama and problems.

Fact: I'm going to shot you in the back.

I have no video-game honor.

In 8 mans, I think I've done maybe six or seven matches were we dueled the other team instead of actually fighting it out. We normally offer to duel opponents we've placed several times before and feel like the outcome is going to be the same.

Problem is that the maps are generally far too small to not have some spill-over. Also it's a team vs team, which means everyone needs to work together for a common goal.

However I do respect duels. Just not on my team.

Thought I'd throw this link in for anyone who cares:

Taking Kurita single combat and throwing it back in their faces since 2687.

To me, I think a duel would be great, though I've never seen one. Would be a good test of one's own skill. You could hardly get the excuse that you were outnumbered also.

When it comes to these, and wanting to keep it 1 on 1 against the clans... that might prove to be a tad difficult for our missle boats, but not as much for their missle boats due to the no min range of CLRM's.
