I had some time today and checked out Hawken, War thunder and Star Conflict.

Now i am the saddest panda because MWO is such a great game but we still dont have mechlab chat and our mechlab/hangar/garage looks like shhhh in comparsion :) Was very impressed with War Thunders menus and options (adjustible post-fx/color filters).

Why is there still no ingame chat? I do not want to visit the forums just to interact with the rest of dem gundam nerds. I am not even a casual player, others will uninstall/not revisit immidiately while they could have been hooked from the get go.

I fired up WT, typed a random question about game mechanics into the messy general chat and got it answered by 5(five) people in 3 seconds.

PGI needs to wake up allready. Its killing me, everytime i fire up MWO i have to think of EVEs newb chat and the expirience in WT just brought that back. Its essential.

March is new players month i heard. Bring mechlab chat, anything will do for now!

How was Star Conflict?
Is it worth checking out while I wait for MWO to... well, to get better?

Warthunder is great and hopefully alive in a few years but I wonder if they will manage the scope they seem to plan for.

IF it works it will be combined warfare where players can run Tanks/Ships/Planes and if I can sit in a dreadnought pounding the coastline with heavy artillery I'll be happy - until divebombed...

More arcady than warthunder - reminds me more of Freelancer.

It can be pretty fun, but they were having server trouble recently after opening on Steam. And, of course, as a general chat window on a F2P title that's been released on steam, sometimes there can be a lot of spam. The game itself is pretty fun though, like a multiplayer arena-based freelancer mixed with some EVE-style damage type and resistance stats in the background.

Thanks for responding about Star Conflict. Saw a trailer for it the other day and it seemed cool-ish.
From the sounds of it though, it's sort of just a "meh" game..

However:

This sounds awesome. Very, very awesome.
Going to go check this out now.

Im thinking of a <genral> chat, one where players chat with eachother without the need to have someone added as a friend. More chat channels would be even better. Option to create your own channels would be a dream come true.

There already is a game that does all that.

World War II Online.

Is it good, it was at one time, now its just old.

If you want to spend $120 for all the DLC, I'm sure it is awesome.

+1 to implementing general chat. Even if it will take a while to implement a fully-featured tutorial, some sort of shooting/piloting range (like in Tribes) combined with a general chat would go a long way towards lifting barriers to entry.

Hawken is already a dead game walking dude, you regularly fail to find 2v2 matches, or was it 4v4. whatever.

Turns out ugly as sin junk mech skins in a bad Quake Arena ripoff with no established IP isn't very attractive.

What kind of modern game with global chat doesn't let you filter it out entirely?

Well okay I could see PGI doing that but.

Path of Exile managed that rather well.

Check youtube for gameplay videos, totalbiscuits one is good. I found it to be slow and boring. Don't really enjoy shooting tiny specks in the distance. I like looking in the eyes of my enemy when I kill them.

War Thunder seems to be nice... better than WoWarplanes anyway...

oh and PGI, if you need some ideas for mission based gameplay, i´d recommend playing it a bit :D

Both games were quite fun and the chat was very entertaining and informative. MWO could use some chat help almost a year ago players were bringing up the same topics and posts for a huge chat room like the MSN gamming zone as part of the MWO structure. GEEZ its been a year and no implementation of a social environment for the game has been forth comming. The old ZONE software for MechWarrior was truly awesome and served the MechWarrior community grandly as far as social needs(AVG 200,000 players a day)MW3-MW4 online. PGI still refuses to see its overall benefits for bringing all the community together and promoting the game. :D
