So with the implimentation of the new Betty message "Warning; Targeted" I have seen an increase in the number of people who refuse to press R. The logic being, that if you are sneaking up on someone and press R they are immediately warned they are about to be under fire. I have been expressly warned by lancemates during an ambush to refrain from pressing R until the enemy is fired upon.
This new "Never press R" philosophy is directly contradictary to the "Information Warfare" aspect of the game. Players used to be encouraged to relay target information to their fellow teammates via pressing R, but now we have something that has been implemented in opposition of this idea.
Don't get me wrong, I love being warned when I am about to get my butt handed to me by a sneaky mech, but is this new contradiction intentional? Thoughts?

I think ability to know, that you are targeted should be made part of BAP, it would make it little more useful, than now, and also make it part of information warfare ^^

Maybe instead just have one of those monitors in the cockpit off to the side display tactical info like how many mechs currently have you targeted?

...and have it display "over 9000" when in the enemy's ECM bubble just for lulz.

Even better, add it as a bonus feature to beagle active probe.

What is funny is everytime I heard that warning, I start ducking/evading with the thoughts that LRMS were incoming...

I agree. It's a very strange choice.

Interesting - I always freak out when I hear this, because I run almost only ECM-equipped stuff. I start trying to figure out where the enemy mech with TAG is, or looking around to see if there is another ECM mech on counter nearby. I had honestly never thought about it in terms of ambushes, but then I'm usually last to the part in my fatlas

I think removing this is bad as it adds to another level of play. Another solution beside removing it is to implement a mark target command that signal who the target is to allies but is not painting the partget to let the target know you got a lock. Almost every combat simulation has a away to tell the player they are being targeted. If you want to ambush someone, you shouldn't be able to broacast radar to aquire your target, by broacasting you are effectiving tell them you are targeting.
I am new so I don't know if there is a dumb fire mode (fire at your cross hair) but that would be how you ambush. I do think there should be a way to flag who the group target is, but you shouldn't be allowed to get full lock and supprise them too.

Although I can understand the concerns in the OP, I thought the warning was a nice feature.
Maybe make it so only enemies you already can see on your radar will be announced when targeting you?

what your only going to say that this is being removed?
Why is it being removed?
is it because the OP was right or is it because it had an unintended consequence or was it never meant to be in the game at all? its not enough to say its being removed and I cant believe everyone just said 'ok'.
I dont care if its in the game or not but it was put there for a reason and now its being removed for a reason
those reasons I do care about. and would very much like to know what they are.
why?
