Working off that build I ripped out the AC2 and it's ammo. I upgraded to Endo and slapped in a STD 355 engine. and slapped At the cost of the AC2 and it's ammo, and it's sustained DPS dropping from 7.70 to 7.64, it's cooling efficiency rises from 38% to 47% and it kicks up it's speed from 53.5 kph to 63.3.

It has one less heat sink now, but without that AC2 it's cooler running.

i get using the gauss ammo in the RT to critprotect the gauss itself, but why not move the srm ammo to the legs?

edit: i'd also move 2 of the gauss ammo into the legs and move one of the DHS to the RT to critprotect even better. use up all 12 crits instead of just 11, means the gauss has a 58% chance of being crit instead of a 64% chance. every little bit counts
edit2: actually that lets you drop the LT case, and since you were only at 99.5 tons, you now have a full ton free. rather than just moving a DHS to the RT, you can add another DHS to the RT

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...17e1f6c970690e1
left the case in the RT, since now you really only can just add the half ton to the legs. also put some of the arm dhs to the LT to help critprotect the SRMs. they may not explode, but they can still be disabled

alternately you can drop back down to a 350 (and only lose like 1kph), but use the tonnage savings and rather than add the extra DHS, put in like an ams or bap or something with more ammo

Two UAC5's are generally better for that kind of purpose...

I'll just repost the build I posted in the other thread, for searchability purposes:

I was going to suggest this as well. Two UAC5s are lighter than your gauss / ac/2 duo and brings you back down to one ballistic ammo type. Range is only marginally shorter 600m long for UAC5 vs 660 for Gauss.

Since you will have two of them jamming isn't as crippling, you can still go nuts on the trigger and fade into cover.

I hate it. :P

Well to expand on that. Double AC2's is not a good idea and I'll tell you why. They force you to face your enemy. I love playing the atlas, but also my favorite thing to do is to destroy side torsos from other atlases and it's very easy because nearly nobody knows how to torso twist in combat. You probably know how to torso twist in a fight, but you gimp your own pilot skills with the AC2's that won't allow you to do it.

It's the price I pay for the extreme range. That being said, if they've got a burst loadout I can twist away when they twist in to fire, take their shots in an arm, and slowly eat through their side while they cool down.
In actual gameplay, I haven't had much of an issue due to the sheer amount of ranged firepower, usually by the time anyone gets close enough for a burst loadout to function they've gotten hammered pretty hard.

Actually that's just a horrible idea. An XL in an assault mech is a recipe for disaster even for sniping builds.

600k post-master xp in an atlas with an XL engine, with a double digit kdr and 5:1 w/l, and only dying in ~11% of drops, would suggest otherwise (yes i play ~70-80% premade) that said, with a 3hp gauss rifle that has a 90% chance of exploding, yeah i'd shy away from an xl in that particular build

With a lot of time under my belt in Atlases, I would agree that a Gauss rifle in the torso with an XL is not the best idea. The rest of that build is solid, though, and very close to a build I used for months. Just drop to a standard engine, around 300 rating, and don't make it your business to get too close to folks - after all, your advantage with those weapons is hitting enemies when they can barely see you, and can't effectively fire back. The dual MLasers in CT are nice as backup in case both your arms and torsos get taken off, which can't happen if you have an XL.

I think your original is a good design with a bit of tuning possible here and there. I would use dual ultra-5s instead of the gauss and ac2, but you may find the original combination to fit your methods/style/habits. And don't rule out the XL engine once your experienced enough to reduce incidence of damage across most combats.

Won't lie, once that thing closes to about 300 meters, it goes from mediocre puncher to **** machine. Though what's the point of an AMS with no ammo?
