Question: why is "test" firing at the beginning of a round a bad thing? Assuming the shots don't hit you or your teammates, does the sight/sound just annoy you? You're not worried about giving away your spawn point, right? I suppose knowing that someone on the other team has a PPC (or whatever) might provide a (very) slight tactical advantage, but is it really enough to complain about? [Also, in counterpoint, "test" firing provides info to your own team re: load-out...]

Personally, I have no problem with "test" firing at the beginning of a match so long as it doesn't result in self-inflicted team damage.

Mainly its the Team Damage, or possible team damage. Or even team killing.

Step 1: Go to Smurfy's site and figure out a mech and build without spending c-bills.
Step 2: Buy the mech and build it.
Step 3: Go test the mech.
Step 4: Figure out that the design is crap.
Step 5: Return to step 1, Do not pass go, Do not collect 200 c-bills.

It wont fix the one problem that i find most annoying.

People NOT targeting their enemies....

LRM boats in pugs are so super greatful when i target enemies whenever i play my fast mechs....and i get to witnes my target showered with Missles because apparently rarely anyone else on my team uses the R key.

There should be some forced targeting, or at least relaying of target info even when the enemy isnt targeted.(say its within x feet and you have LoS)...so some people would at least passively do their job.

(I know ECM might a problem here too, but ECM isnt always present)

Things will certainly get better, but as to the test firing, I do that anytime I switch out weapons. I prefer weapon groups to fire according to which side they are on (left weapons to left arm, etc). I'll likely fill this out in the training grounds, but doesn't mean I won't do it during the match :P

I also plan to practice against one of my friends who has a 3L to develop strategies to counter them, among other things. Heck, one thing I definitely intend on doing is to get both of us to have 0 armor and a heavy ballistic weapon or two, move ~800 or so km away, and to a cowboy quickshoot for the funs of it :D

It's an offline testing grounds, not a private-server training area.

Elitist being Elitist.

Huh. Nothing new to see or read here...

This is hardly elitist hoping that a new player will avail themselves of the training options open to them.

Elitisim would be more along the lines of "I'm super great and awesome cause I'm the bestest at robots and you all stink"

I do agree that the content of the post was a bit on the weak side though.Perhaps a discussion on how to recomend new users to actually make use of the training grounds?
