This probably has to do with video drivers/perfomance but thought i'd ask what peoples experiences have been.

For me I can see mechs up to about 1500m away, however if i stand still looking at a hill i'll see gauss/PPC fire coming out of nowhere (no heat sig on 3.0x zoom) from distances of 1800m+ away based on recticle info. I know they can see me because it hits me dead centre on the torso.

What im wondering is how far away people can see mechs? should they be viewable right up to the point they become a speck on the horizon? or is there a max distance where they get rendered.

its a pretty big disadvantage when your clear and obvious as day and the entire enemy team is invisible due to a long distance rendering problem, yet you think you havent been noticed since well, theres nothing visible at all.

Ive noticed this also. You cant see the mechs, but you can see a shot coming from out of the side of the mountain. And they always hit you dead center, but the shooter cant be seen. Sometimes Ive noticed that when you fire on them and they start moving, they show up for a split second and disappear again. Sometimes you only see them once and they are gone, and other times they appear, then disappear, then re-appear again over and over again. Seems like a bug to me. You should be able to see mechs as far away as a mech can be, even if they are a tiny speck. Doesnt make sense that mechs can just appear out of thin air.

I've also had this happen to me on a regular basis on alpine, which makes me really worried about desert.
You are moving up trying to asess the situation, out of no where you take 6 PPCs to the chest.

It's been suggested to raise the visual setting on environment, but this of course would be very taxing on game performance.
Should we sacrifice close combat performance for long range sniping?
I would be very interested in increasing the rendering distance for mechs and such only, but I don't know the user.cfg line to accomplish this.
Can anyone help?

I was unable to see a Raven at 700m in clear line of sight. He was on the side of a hill in plain view, and in range of my lasers. I fired below the target marker and hit him, so I know he was there.

Running minimum settings (low end PC these days, but above minimum requirements. 30ish FPS these days).

I've noticed that at these extreme distances I may not be able to see the entire mech, I CAN however see a CPLT's disembodied bay doors shuffling along in the snow.

Well, I got Alpine when using the Testing Grounds, I am not sure if it is my .cfg changes (cl_fov = 90 ; e_MaxViewDistSpecLerp = 1 ; e_MaxViewDistance = 10000 ; e_LodCompMaxSize = 64 ; those are my only changes to my user.cfg) but I can see mechs at all distances.

The furthest I have seen a mech on that map, in the Testing Grounds, that is, is at 2.4km. I will try to test out if I can see a mech all the way across the map by utilizing hills and stuff.

I belive you can change how far object are rendered in the .CFG file.

At lower res' this is lowered automatically.

I think I can beat your 1200m visual (or whatever it is) with my grand 800m visual range. If they don't have ECM, I can guess where you are from the target box. If you have ECM, then you are literally invisible to me at long ranges. But only on Alpine.

Why shouldn't we be able to see mechs from across the map? That really ****** me off. Im pretty sure that we should be able to look from one end of the map to the other

I think Alpine should have haze in it that is thick enough that you couldn't see anything past 1000-1500m clearly anyway. It feels unnatural in how far you can see the map to me anyway.

I guess this is getting fixed, but I've been getting this too. Had it when my computer was crap, and now that I'm on a new machine with maxed graphics I still get it sometimes.

I get this too. Funny, but annoying.

Where do you live, bro? If air is clean you can see really far.

I have done a quick test run on the testing ground (Alpine Peaks).

My graphic settings are all maxed and the Mechs "disappear" beyond 1750 m.
The only change to my user.cfg is the FOV.

I've noticed this too, but it seems inconsistent. Some matches i can see on Alpine very far, others not so much. I've started to call out target movements on that map before and the compass direction and my wingmen will tell me they see absolutely nothing.

On a few occasions i have seen missile bay doors floating around in the distance @ ~1.8k+

Think I've seen mechs out to 1700m as well.

I have my viewdistances maxed.

At 1500 meters, I can see the smoke trail coming off a damaged mech, while at the same time being unable to actually see the mech itself.
