So, whilst dropping with a merry band I like to called the 9th I had a idea. This gem came when there was a ninja capping of our base. I'm like, we killed 6 out of 8 of them, they really didn't win, since they can't hold a position with two mechs. Sooooo... this got my brain in gear.

Why not make it so that the team that successfully caps the enemy base have to hold it for X amount of minutes. Of course this would make matches take a bit longer, So to balance this fact, 20 minute match times instead of 15.

So essentially it would be a take and hold mission, not a "oop we got your base you lose mission"

Just a thought I had. Would also make it a viable mission for planetary conquest stuffs, and force teams to be more flexible.

Yes I realize this is awful for pugs. Deal, overcome and adapt.

They do hold it for X amount of minutes, this is what drains the cap bar.

What's the point of that though? With your idea, why have the cap bar at all?

If they take the base, they have to hold it for a while. Ok, but won't they need some kind of cap timer for that? Sticking with the theme of the existing game types, wouldn't it be a bar anyway? With your idea, it's just making the cap timer last longer.

Either way i feel it is fairly silly that 2 surviving hostile mechs can get a base cap, and the match is over. Look at it this way, right now it's 8 on 8, pug or not, and there's always at least one case where one team mauls the other, yet still looses because of a ninja base cap.

Think they will improve it somehow without my suggestion, just laying it down that assault mode neads to be improved or taken behind the barn and properly snuffed.

IDK, I wrote the idea in the wee hours of the morning and wasn't entirely sober.

It needs to stay the way it is. It is one of those balance things, if you decide to run with too many heavy mechs and the other team can distract you while their lights cap that is a failure in your team make and strategy if you can't stop it (run a balanced drop).

If you make it take even longer it will promote teams to always run as heavy as they can since there is no real draw back since an all Assault team would have time to kill the lighter team and walk all the way back to base before getting capped.

The capping you can think of representing e.g. hacking into the enemies systems, once completed you now have all their data and so win.

You may have taken their rooks and Bishops but they still took your King.... that is the point of any strategic game, you can't ignore your objective and then whinge when you lose.

Base cap could well be they have invaded the base, got the info and transmitted it out. at which point they dont need to hold it and a guy in a jeep would still be enough to win against an Atlas....
