On one hand, your XL engine is a bigger liability, but on the other hand you can torso twist like a madman and spread out incoming damage.
I mean, for the most part, people will try to shoot out a jenner's ct or legs. Both are, relatively speaking, large hitboxes, and you can't really shield them with other parts of your mech. Even if you could, you really don't want to lose an arm and half your guns. And with 44 armour for both front and back ct and 32 per leg, there's not really all that much between a jenner and horrible death at any given moment.
On the other hand, the cicada is rocking 48 on the ct and 40(!) per leg, and you have disposable arms with up to 24 armour plus however much internal health and side torsos with 40 armour that are large enough to block shots aimed at your ct with a well timed torso twist.
So really, in exchange for the larger hitbox and bit of heat or speed, you gain a ton of survivability if you have the skill to properly spread incoming damage.
Also, ECM.
Furthermore, the jenner has fat, stupid looking legs.
EDIT: Oh, and the cicada has a giant cockpit with wraparound windows. Way less claustrophobic than the coffins they cram in jenners, especially if you play with a higher FoV.

On the CDA-2A it makes no sense to have less than an XL325. Why you ask? Crit slots and the in-engine heat sinks. If you drop below a XL 325, you lose the ability to mount a DBL heat sink because you only have 2 crit spots left. In order to add more heat sinks than 16, you have to use standard armor, which nerf's your speed quite a bit from the XL 325.
These same reasons are why you don't want to go under the max engine (XL 300) for a JR7-F.
So you get rid of your Ferro and now you can add more heatsinks. You drop your engine down a little from the "optimal" and you already had 5 extra tons to begin with to mount bigger weapons. Ferro on my jenner is saving like .79 tons btw. Ferro is only used on light mechs because they tend to have criticals to spare. A Cicada is a medium. Maybe it should start thinking like a medium.
You're "THIS IS THE ONLY BUILD YOU CAN PLAY!!!!" argument isn't serious is it? That's like saying that the only Cat A1 is a splatcat because it rules the universe and any other build would cause a singularity that would destroy all existence. There sure are a lot of people on these forums who feel that way but that doesn't make it true.
Mechwarrior allows choices. You are imposing your own limitations based on your own preconceptions.
Point is the Cicada is not just a Jenner with bigger hit boxes.

Ok, so what builds can an energy only Cicada run that a Jenner couldn't? A Jenner could lose a bit of speed and its max engine to throw on some more weapons too.
The cicada has the armour of a light. For these types of mechs survival = speed.

It's a bit slower (133.7 kph) but has 18 DHS and does fine in my opinion.

Not true anymore with the new Elo system. Take a look at your next post match report and count the number of weight classes on each side.

Hardpoints on Torso (in case of 2A) make the cda harder to disarm.
Cicadas have a ECM variant.
The extra tonnage becomes interesting when trying to add some extra punsh.
6 MPL 2A is a pretty viable build.
Also a fast PPC sniping build is easier done on the CDAs especially if you cut armor down from legs to match the jenners total armor.

Max engine - Jenner goes 1.2 kph faster
Cicada can take more armour, but only 274 vs 238...
...and if you do that then the weight forces you to take one less heatsink so the Jenner is more heat efficient.
...and if you take the same armour as the Jenner to keep that heat efficiency the same then you end up with a mech that goes 1.2 kph slower and is bigger, thus an easier target, than the light.
The Jenner also has the option of adding JJs.
Cicada fans; what am I missing??!
Jenner is way better looking mech toilet. If atlas has to sit down and potty......its on a jenner.

I can't wait for "PORCELAIN" The great white Balistic Jenner hero, Ballistics and missles.........its going to be so cool.
That way you can like jump jet......dakka dakka dakka.....missle flush......... Might not be lethal but I bet it would be THE most fun mech. The only reason I ain't got a jenner is they don't have a ballistic one. If they had a jenner with a ballistic/missle/jump jet combo that would prob be my first mech choice. Absolutely sure that would be the most fun mech to pilot.
Cicada wierd shape.... I think cicada happens when your leave home...... your garage door opener turns into a cicada and starts digging in your fridge. or a angry slide show projector.
Cicada would prob be the mech most likely to qualify for Star Wars, It just looks so badass. Its like the muscle car of mechs......not the fastest........just a engine with legs. Its not even chicken leg, its like some insect. Arms are likes some aerodynamic wings..... As a scout it traded concealment for observation.
Its the best looking mech out right now. It has ROCKETS on its calves. It has URBANMECH beenie antennas....Its like it has urbanmech in there driving.
Look at the hero so badass.....it has duct tape on its legs....missles look like head lights ......its like a total urban ghetto mech. Its like GTO......gears, tires, oil. Engine and legs.... Its not a f1 race car, its a urban get away car.
I might hurt peoples feelings less killing them in a cicada instead of a mech-toilet.
