I actually like BAP quite a bit and run it on my LRM boats. Faster locks and target info is a great bonus. I don't even care about the range so much as I try and discipline my LRM fire to around 500m unless I have a peach of a shot (legged mech in the water or something).

BAP doesn't actually give you faster locks.
  • Increases targeting range by 25%
  • Increases the speed at which more information about the target is displayed by 25%
  • It allows detection of shut down mechs when within 120m.
That's it.

The info about the target being displayed faster is actually called "Target Acquisition", which is NOT lock-on.

It is useful to note that the combination of two modules basically does the BAP's job, other than the shut down mechs.

It is also useful to note that a 25% increase in sensor range is a 56% increase in area covered...not factoring in that vision is a cone and not a circle.
