I've been looking at different setups for easier handling here as of late, and I've heard some different methods of rigging here in the forums. I've seen plenty of arguments consisting of, "Joysticks are the way to go" and "The mouse makes everything easier," and I've even heard of the use of foot pedals for steering, dual joysticks, and the like.
I've always just been a straight keyboard guy myself. Never really used the mouse, save for the MechLab. But I'm very open to looking for a more streamlined approach, because i don't think my hands will have the same dexterity they had during MW4.
What are y'all's preferred methods?

Pardon me but if you just saw several threads on this subject why did you create a new one instead of reading through the old ones.
It's not like those threads are completly outdated.

Low price, plenty of buttons, and well worth giving a try to see what you think.

Never said I saw threads specifically about people's preferred methods. I saw some preferences included in posts.
This thread was created to be something more along the lines of, "Hey, that rig is pretty sweet. I wonder what else is out there?" and "Gee whiz, guys! That does sound like it'll make things easier!"
Don't make the assumption that I haven't been scouring forums already. I've just chosen to give it the opportunity to become a bit more concentrated.

Well my preferred method would be a simulator that I step into. My realistic method will probably be keyboard and mouse/trackball. The game has no 3rd person perspective (that I have seen). So you only need to worry about your visual direction from one frame of refrence. That part I would say is handled well by a mouse/trackball. Its basically the direction your upper body is facing. Lower body and movement with the AWDSX keys (S for stop, X for reverse).
I think your probably going to want a hand on the keyboard even if you have a joystick for movement. I suppose there will be people that can automate a lot of the game into macros for highly programmable joysticks. However, you will need to be able to readily select weapon groups, probably radar adjustments, active/passive radar, engine shutdown/start up, text based chat commands. I am sure with the 12+ programmable buttons on many joystics you can find a way to map them all. It just feels like I would have less control with out my hand near the keyboard.

Yeah, no lie there.

Yeah, I've seen some pretty ridiculous joystick setups out there. This one (that i have attached a link to) even has a throttle control; in fact, I'm sure any flight sim joystick would function well, as soon as you acquire the muscle memory needed in order to not have to wrestle with your hotkeys for your respective weapon groups. But as for those more secondary controls (shutdown/startup, cycling sensor contacts, etc.), it does sem necessary to keep a keyboard handy. This raises another question: how can you operate one of those massive flight sim rigs (dual joysticks, rudder pedals, and everything) and still have the option of a keyboard, while making it ergonomic?
I guess I can answer that one on my own: get a bigger desk.
