Well guys its been a while, but we decided words are not enough. Sure we've withheld quite a lot of information from you guys -- but we assure you its all going to be worth it very soon™. Anyway, Instead of a big formal post we've instead gotten a nice treat for you guys. We did a dev interview going over all of what we have in store for Community Warfare, The Clan Invasion, an even Solaris! Words simply cannot describe how excited we are for this announcement and I cannot thank our staff enough at PGI for all their time (and secrecy) over the project.

Just one more shout out, Thank you from all the guys at NGNG who have really helped us with which Clan Mechs to include over the next year.

Overview

Following the death of ilKhan Leo Showers over Radstadt in 3050, "reserve" Clans Steel Viper and Nova Cat were added ostensibly to "aid" the efforts of Clans Jade Falcon and Smoke Jaguar, while a seventh Clan, Clan Diamond Shark, did not mobilize in time to "aid" Clan Ghost Bear. However, the additions of these reserve Clans were actually meant to hinder the progress by Clan Wolf's rivals, a machination by newly-elected ilKhan Ulric Kerensky of Clan Wolf. In fact, Clans Steel Viper and Nova Cat were intentionally assigned to invasion corridors already assigned to bitter rivals.
Operation Revival was intended to be the great return of General Kerensky's heirs. Ostensibly, the Clans intended to free the people of the Inner Sphere from the greed and corruption of the constantly warring Successor States, and re-create the great Star League. As such, the Clan Invaders focused their attention and their campaigns almost exclusively on units pledged to the Lords of the Great Houses. Only on rare occasions were neutral forces engaged, specifically the Com Guard garrisons. Though ComStar facilities were present on many of the planets conquered during Operation Revival, the Com Guards were ordered to remain neutral - the new Clan Invaders would simply be a different lord to whom ComStar could provide communication services. In an unlikely twist, these neutral Com Guards became the military which stopped the Clan Invasion.
In another machination by ilKhan Ulric, the Clans "revealed" the ultimate goal of the Clan Invasion to Comstar in 3051 - Terra, Comstar's home. The rationale behind the Terran conquest was simple - the Clan capable of successfully conquering mankind's home world would become the ilClan, the Clan which would guide/control the creation of the new Star League. ilKhan Ulric (a Warden) gambled that ComStar would not stand idly while Terra was conquered. While the less sophisticated armies of the Successor Lords could not stop the Clans for some time, Ulric hoped either the more sophisticated Com Guards would halt the Clan invasion (or ensure Clan Wolf would become the ilClan). In either eventuality, Ulric's Warden stance would become ascendant.
ilKhan Ulric Kerensky's gamble worked. His "revelation" prompted Precentor Martial Anastasius Focht to muster the Com Guard in defense of a proxy world - the Com Guards would defend a pair of objectives against each Clan on Tukayyid, a small "backwater" world in the Free Rasalhague Republic. Should the Com Guard fail, ComStar offered to surrender Terra rather than fight. After a month of combat, ComStar emerged victorious, and the ensuing Truce of Tukayyid, signed shortly thereafter between ilKhan Ulric Kerensky and ComStar Precentor Martial Anastasius Focht, stipulating the Clan Invasion could not commence again for 15 years.
Had the Com Guards lost the Battle of Tukayyid, one can only speculate whether or not ComStar would have actually conceded Terra.

Just a run down of the clans we plan on having, here is a short list; I'm sure you guys can recognize them :D

Since we are in fact allowing players to participate as the Clans, here are some rules to help clarify. We will be opening up a new Q&A session on exactly how things will go down, but here is a preview on what will happen.

Rules

The proscriptions of zellbrigen consist of the following rules:
  • Each warrior will issue a challenge to a different enemy. If one side outnumbers the other, then the extra warriors on that side will stand aside until one of their comrades falls in battle. A warrior can challenge more than one unit at a time.[4]
  • A warrior has right to refuse challenges from Inner Sphere units, especially if underhanded ploys are suspected.[4]
  • A warrior has the right to refuse a challenge from an unit of differing weight class if other unengaged units are available.[4]
  • No artillery or other Area-Effect Weapons shall be employed by either side.[4]
  • Intentionally moving out of the line of sight of the opponent is prohibited.[4]
  • Systems that requires multiple units to operate, like C3 and TAG, are forbidden.[4]
  • Moving out of weapon range is prohibited.[4]
  • Failure to fire a weapon when possible is prohibited.[4]
A warrior is also expected to not retreat from inferior foes, or to engage his opponent in melee combat, though these are not part of the formal rules of zellbrigen.[4] Also, though it plays a central role in Clans' combat challenges, the ritual of batchall remains a separate tradition.

[edit] Interpretation

How zellbrigen is interpreted depends not only on the individual, but their parent Clan as a whole. At one end of the spectrum, the rules are strictly followed, the only exception being when fighting bandits, pirates or the most hated of enemies. At the opposite end, zellbrigen is figuratively "thrown out the airlock" and used only against other Clan warriors, and even then only when there is an advantage over them. In between are varying levels of adherence; for example, zellbrigen is followed unless circumstances dictated otherwise, such as being outnumbered or thinking one could get away with breaking it.[4]
Prior to the Clan Invasion, Clan Blood Spirit, Clan Coyote, Clan Ghost Bear, Clan Goliath Scorpion, Clan Jade Falcon, Clan Star Adder and Clan Steel Viper adhered strictly to the tenets of zellbrigen. Meanwhile Clan Cloud Cobra, Clan Hell's Horses, Clan Ice Hellion, Clan Nova Cat and Clan Snow Raven were more opportunistic in their interpretation. Only Clan Diamond Shark and Clan Wolf used a liberal interpretation of zellbrigen in their conflicts with the other Clans.[4]
After their defeat at the Battle of Tukayyid, many of the Clans began to rethink their use of these honor rules, and a number of political, military and cultural changes took place. The Blood Spirits, Jade Falcons and Star Adders became more opportunistic, while the Ghost Bears became more liberal, in the use of zellbrigen. The schism within Clan Wolf resulted in its new Crusader-minded leadership to become slightly more conservative, while Clan Wolf-in-Exile maintain a flexible definition of zellbrigen.[4]
Clan Fire Mandrill, by their fractious nature, defy any sort of labeling, with each Kindraa having their own individual understandings of zellbrigen.

Only huge problem: The "Quotes" from Bryan and Paul have all of the Sarna links in them...

We all know that Paul doesn't know what Sarna is, and that Bryan doesn't consider Sarna a "real" source. :D

Good thing I don't click on links if it's tied to YouTube and dubbed "serious" in nature.
