If so... I'm also playing and loving it!!! It still has not gotten true flight stick controls or I should say they have not been fine tuned (much like MWO) in that aspect. But War Thunder really feels like everyone is on equal footing. Even when I first started in the lowest planes in the game, I could still compete with those many levels above me.

Some think War Thunder is just World of War Planes/tanks... It's not. There is no super money only weapons or gold ammo. Your planes can be upgraded to be better but each plane has a set number of upgrades it can have. But what I like it those upgrades are only for that plane and its role in the game. So you can't turn a plane into something it's not meant to be lol

Anyway... If anyone is playing or decides to play. Send me a friend request in that game and then PM me here to let me know.

This looks like a post for the war thunder forums, I think you're on the wrong site.

No, it's perfectly on topic because that is also a P2W game and this is now the forum for a related P2W game.
have you played war thunder Malice? Because I can say I am really enjoying it as at least its planes have roles unlike MWO right now allowing anyone to be anything in any mech. Capturing bases s actually fun in War Thunder and there are no super OP weapons or systems either.

Tried it a while back but just never quite got the hang of it. Think I need a better joystick though. May give it another shot at some point. =)

It's a good game to take a break from MWO from. More appealing game modes than MWO (you don't just capture or kill your enemy players, you can also when by destroying NPC vehicles) and a nice nostalgic feel with the WWII planes.

I've been intrigued since I'm a big WWII flight sim buff but I don't currently have my flight stick with me and I assume this game requires a joystick to be competitive? Also do actual flight physics work in this game...ex. I'm in a 109 I need to use energy tactics like Boom and Zoom not turning. Or with a Zero I can use turn and Burn tactics. etc. Also do rudder controls work so I can do proper barrel rolls and Split S's manuevers?

I'm in, pilot name 'Ajur'. And Wanted, yeah, their flight models are pretty spot-on. In Arcade Battles, I hear it's actually easier to fly with a keyboard and mouse, but it's recommended for Historical Battles to use a stick, and compulsory for Full Real Battles. I use a stick for all three, myself.

With the first, there isn't so much difference in how the different planes act (aside from class differences like fighters and bombers, ground-attack, etc). In Historical and Full Real, though, the more precise flight models and less over-zealous computer 'aid' allow the planes to shine in the areas they historically were known for.

Generally though the philosophies of the different air forces are apparent - the USAF are definitely better suited to energy fighting and useless in a turning fight, the RAF are generally slower and better turning, the Luftwaffe are fast and good in a dive, and so on...

Depending on the country you choose, you pretty much have to lay in historical or real. The game is fun, but the developers have obviously given the most attention/power to these countries in this order:
  • Russia
  • Britain
  • Japan
  • US
  • Italy
Some of the models become entirely laughable, like a spitfire's 7.7mm gun taking the wing right off of a P47 (which was essentially a flying sheet of armor) in one shot. Russian aircraft can drastically outperform most anything, despite being US P39's/P63's with soviet flags painted on. They bought and copied our airframe in massive quantities.

There are also areas in arcade mode where aircraft simply can't perform their intended roles. P51's were long range, high altitude bomber escorts. They were originally ordered by the British, and designed solely for range and altitude. This meant they were not as good at dog fighting as planes like the spit fire, but could actually fly from Italy, to Berlin, and back to protect bombers, whereas no other fighter of the day could come close.

That said, it does make a big difference when you rank up and "improve" your aircraft, so anyone who pays to do so will get a big initial advantage at every tier. Premium aircraft come with all the upgrades already, but they're pretty cheap. Around $6 - $10 each.

What War Thunder does right:
  • PVE mixed in with PVP gives attack aircraft and bombers a purpose (though not in capture the base mode )
  • Tutorials for each aircraft type/weapon type
  • Pay system that allows non-payers to catch up with paying players
  • Upgradeable aircraft
  • soft grind
  • satisfaction when you finally shoot down that damn Yak9
But ultimately, it gets boring when everyone has 20mm, 37mm, and 50mm cannons, but your faction has a bunch of .50's that are drastically under powered by game design :/

So there are two British factions and an Italian one in your version of War Thunder? Where do I get it? :(

I get that people want 'their' faction to have the best planes, but the game has dozens of planes that all handle differently. Maybe try another plane tree and find a plane you like more? I've tried the German, Russian, US and British planes so far. I like the Brits because I'm still pretty low-tier and they turn well - I like my manoeuvrability. I can't seem to stick with the US long enough to unlock any of their better planes, because their reserves and Tier 1's handle as if their elevators were an afterthought (at least with my joystick... but I don't have half as many problems with the other air forces). As I understand it, though, the game tries to give each plane marque the weapons it had in WW2 - so, if all the American planes had .50cals instead of cannon, that's not really Gaijin's fault.

The Russians are kind of invincible... perhaps a symptom of being made by a different team. Not sure.

Still a fun game, even when I get stomped.

Whoops, brain fart. Italy isn't a faction, but I recall seeing some of their planes.

Anyway, it's not about having the best faction, but aircraft realistic to their purpose. The ability of Russian aircraft was way over inflated. As an example of what most people mean, there are multiple occasions where Japanese aircraft collided with US aircraft. The Japanese fighter had it's wing sheared off while the US fighter kept on flying. Basically, all our aircraft were way over built at the beginning of the war, and were notorious for soaking up all kinds of firepower before going down. Of course, this extra weight and lower power engine meant they couldn't climb worth beans and were about as agile as a freight train.

But none of that is take into consideration in War Thunder. Also, it's been mentioned multiple times (even by the developer, apparently) that .50 guns are under powered compared to their real life counterparts. I can attest to his, as I've dumped 3 full belts worth of ammo from 8x .50's into one Yak9, with "HIT" streaming down my screen and never shot it down. It just soaked up the damage and kept flying.

play it alot. I like the concept of scenarios that are PVP with a PVE background. Essentially, it´s "P+E v P+E"

The sim aspects and the damage model is good, too. And good lord, the dynamic weather and landscape is gorgeous.

Yeah, the Italian planes come under the flag of the Luftwaffe in WT. Though mostly (from what I recall) the rest are German.

The Yak story both surprises me and doesn't in equal measure. I've taken one down in a bottom-level Spitfire just with .303cals no problem... Not sure how damaged it was before I found it, though. I heard that the Russian planes were built by the Russian arm of their dev team, and have massive damage-soak abilities compared to the other factions. Hopefully they'll be corrected soon.

I admit to misunderstanding your point about the .50s before though; I thought you were comparing their effectiveness to the cannons. I see where you're coming from, now!

Although speaking of ramming... there is nothing more rage-inducing for me in any game I've ever played than getting rammed by some ***** who can't kill me with his guns. It's just so... cheap! :)
