Here is an idea for those who want to see some form of third person, nothing that can be used while fighting, sure your teammate would have it upon death, but the real idea is to be able to truly spectate games.
Any advantage a dead team-mate would be able to offer would be out-weighed by their subsequent death IMO.
This would also be a way for PGI to offer training tutorials showing the battle field from this perspective, and true spectators to Tournament play.
The ability to replay one's own matches from a third person (not exactly bird's eye view, just a limited 3rd person perhaps 30 - 50 meters above your mech) after the fact would be helpful too, for training purposes.

Not a good idea - that dead teammate would effectively act as a talking 360 degree radar.

We all know 3rd person is probably coming. Just modify the OP's input and volia, a viable alternative. The tweak to the OP's post "add a time-delay".

I agree that it would be better if a dead teammate were not able to do this in real time, so perhaps just a way to replay the match at the end in third person, I don't want to see 3rd person as an option in a planetary fight for example, otherwise this would become another "Mechassault" game.
However, if there was a way for this to be observed by others not involved in the match, that would be great.
3rd person in a training tutorial or "training session" between a small group in a "scrimmage" where no points are awarded would be fine too, long as this isn't an option for fighting in a battle where it really counts, for training purposes, I wouldn't mind if it helps newer players adjust to piloting a mech. (i.e. learning torso twisting etc.)
I have been playing since the mid-80's TT Battletech, and various forms of MW games ever sense, but to help a brand new person adjust to the concept, I wouldn't mind at all.

Yep, that would be nice. There are some technical issues with it though - in order to replay the match the raw data needs to be stored somewhere. If it's stored on the server, it can easily cause problems with disk space. If it's stored on the client, it needs to be sent to you in real time along with the regular data stream and that can slow things down.

Same problem - 9 guys on VOIP, 8 in a match + 1 "talking radar".

What most of yall are suggesting is in other games and would look something like this and be 3 minutes behind:
