I would love to, but my PC is set on my language and it labels all the words as bad.

If you're using Firefox, you can have multiple dictionaries installed on that browser and switch between which is active at any given time...heck, a check in the 'Available Add-ons' right now is showing a raft of english-{otherlanguage} translators that you can get. Maybe that'd help?

Actually, I used Wired magazine as an example since the subject matter of the magazine was so relevant to the point at hand.
Had we been discussing weddings (or Weddings?), I would have pulled Bride and Groom magazine out and used that as an example, assuming I had one.
This board is not North American. It is made up of so many different cultures, each with certain grammatical styles.
The internet is no more a proper noun than the telephone or television. That happens to be my reasoning on the matter, and indeed the reasoning of many, many people.
this explains things rather nicely:

Consequently, while I agree with everything that was said in the OP (especially about spelling and grammar...and if spelling is an issue, use Firefox and download the spell check. *** knows it helps me...) I don't really like to be told what is and isn't acceptable as far as such contentious issues like this.
I don't care if you put a capital 'I' when spelling internet.
I just don't want to be told the way I do it is wrong when is plainly is not.
I'm not actually sure if there really is such a thing as Bride and Groom magazine

Hitting Alt + 39 after every second word? No way!

And I don't have Firefox, so I can't.

Oh, well; just a suggestion.

In my experience , if someone takes the effort to warn/announce/apologize that English isn't their first language, they typically take more care and attention to syntax and grammar than many 'native English speakers'¹ , so a) thanks for that, and 2) I apologize on behalf of the lazy typists...from every background, really. They're not lesser people simply because they don't worry as much about clear, concise communication as we do...they just may have more difficulty in getting their points across and being understood.

Footnotes, because YES, I'm that ana7²:
1. I think it's also possible that the prefatory comment psychologically predisposes me to being more lenient towards someone's grammar.
2. Heck, I created a fake 'authority' "das Büro für Grammatikdurchführung"...mostly as a self-lampooning joke about my own compulsive behaviour, which stems from my efforts to counteract my dyslexia. :^)
3. This is the rare Endangered Self-Referential Footnote.³ (name that game! ;^) )

I'm sure I'm not the only one who stops reading any person's post which begins with the above introduction.
Excellent guidelines for a safer, happier, saner forum. If only the real internet actually worked this way!
P.S. I really did read the whole thread.

(serious question) Is it inappropriate to swear, not at somebody but for emphasis? (of course using 'sh**', for example) I am a truck driver and tend toward this. The company you keep, and all that. But I am interested to know. I used it in a post and felt kind of ashamed, it wasn't really necessary. It was intended to add a humorous flavor.
