It was done by an animation school, not an acting school.

If you want something similar and very young/cartoon you can always try the Robotech movies/series. I loved them.

Ugh...

Dem 2000 CGI and 80s acting.
Surprisingly good combo.

All things considered, I'd have to say this looked quite a bit better than Robot Jox did.

Then again, that movie didn't exactly set the bar very high, even considering that it was made back in 1989... :)

I really thinks just the red tape surrounding this IP which makes a movie adaptation unachievable. Guys I promise, WHEN I become a multi millionare I will buy the rights to everything battletech and let the fans have at it.

...If the guys holding it right now actually agree to sell it...

Considering Robot Jox was the first attempt to do a semi-serious mecha movie and broke two studios making it (special effects were all models back then), it's hard to compare the two since the MWDA student film had Robot Jox to look at when deciding what they wanted to do. Also, Robot Jox was the result of the writer and director having vastly opposed visions for the movie (writer wanted an adult war movie while the director saw it as a kids robot-sockem movie), whereas the MWDA student short was done by a group of student animators who -knew- what they wanted.

I think a MechWarrior movie could be profitable and a great movie, as long as they kept it 'realistic' and took the subject matter seriously. A story focusing on the humanity of the pilots and how piloting these massive machines of war onto battlefields where humanity is often the rarest of commodities would work, I think ("How long can a soldier fight inside a robot without becoming a robot?"). But again, the problem is finding a filmmaker who would be able to carry the project through with skill and dedication, and avoid the temptation to make it a vehicle for selling toys and video games to kids.

We'll see, but for now all we can do is drop in a DVD of "The Matrix:Revolution", "Avatar", or, yes, "Robot Jox" to see how things might be.

P.S. Don't knock Anime, either, as some of the best mecha stories are around in that format. "Armored Trooper Votoms" is basically MechWarrior, while "Macross Zero", "Macross Plus", and especially "Patlabor II: The Movie" really kick in some of the best mecha storytelling, in my opinion, precisely because they focus in on more than just the mecha, but don't ignore the impact they have on the world around them either.

I'd love to see the original GDL trilogy as a mini series, the series pretty much explains the basics of the settings while presenting a great number of plots.

Although they could some more stuff in that wasn't really explained:
- The relation among the Successor states
- They could drop more hints about the true nature of Comstar
- Ricol should show some more connections to other major DC characters
- The original unit of Grayson's father was never really explored
- Some info on what happend between "Mercenary's Star" and "The price of Glory" (how Graff ended up in the unit and a early introduction to Rachan)
