So, i've been playing for a few days now.. and i've gained about 8 mil over the past few nights

i invested in a TBT-7K for the 2 PPC and i've experimented by taking the lasers/machinegun out and replacing with long range energy to buff up some additional long range support.

I'm averaging around 250+ damage a match but I feel I'm not being very effective.

Is there a concensus on the best mech for your buck right now? Are PPCs just underpowered?

Thanks for the help!

A lot of people recommend the Hunchback 4 SP for a newb. And I don't think 250 dmg is all that bad, but that is just me.

Oh, and don't forget it depends on what playstyle you prefer.
Brawler
Harasser
Scout
Assault
and so on

Standard PPC? Keep it for longer range.

This is what I did with my TBT-7k though.

Watch, you'd be surprised how well 2 flamers, 2 MGs, 2 SRM-4's or 6's will do.
Keep in mind... if the flamers aren't set exactly as mine are, your heat will go through the roof and it'll be unusable. The build uses an XL 315 engine.

Far as other 'Mechs, there's quite a few effective ones. Personally I find the most bang for your cbills comes from the Raven 4X with an AC-20, XL-170 to 190 engine, and between 4 and 6 tons of ammo. It is imperative to remember that build is no longer a "light" but a walking cannon. Treat it as such. (I spammed enough videos about it, you can find them on youtube though. Just type Koniving AC-20 Raven. Actually, you can also find at least one of them and a lot of player help here in this thread: http://mwomercs.com/...ost__p__1969425 )

The next "most bang for your buck" comes from the Catapult A1 with 6 SRM 6's, or the faster more effective version with greater longevity using an XL 315 engine and 6 SRM-4's. More expensive, but the only way to get superior fire power is with a stalker, however you just can't beat the catapult's torso twist, speed, and jump jets in the right builder's hands.

Now if you're just looking for good, effective 'Mechs that anyone can use rather than "the most bang for your buck", you can never go wrong with a Hunchback. Even the 4J has its merits. The 4G is the only one that you need practice with to be good at it. Of the hunchbacks, the cheapest tweak and fight build is the Hunchback 4SP. Swap the heat sinks, trade a little armor and the small laser for a medium laser in the head, and relocate the ammo. You're good to go.

Also consider Centurions. They have a little bit more of a learning curve in effective use of the shield arm but it'd be worth it. Especially if you use CTRL to control your right arm. Occasionally you'll see me rushing an enemy with my left arm out front, and my right arm hooked over top of it, shooting with my good arm protected by the shield. Then when I get close I hit C to center my torso and fire my missiles. Blam! Love doing that.

Great!

Another "easy button mode splatapult" on the road.

Don't forget to make premade with 4 of them for more...fun ;)

He'll realize the fallacies of it soon enough. The main thing is that PGI needs to fix "all hard points share the same tubes" issue. When we do, the 36 missiles won't use the same 6 tubes on each launcher, creating much more wild spread.

250+ damage is quite fine for a beginner. If you are constantly below that I would worry. In a match where your team erradicates all enemies and everyone does similar amounts of damage all "good players" on your team will have 300-400 damage. Higher numbers only happen when you have 1-3 guys surviving extremely long, being able to fire for extended lengths parts of the match while 2-3 other guys on the same team are afk/dead. The later case is much more likely in PUG matches.

As for your actual question: I can give you two answers to this.
1) Do you want an extreme Mech that does one thing extremely well. You should check out LRM boats, Splatcats and the like.
2) Do you want a very versatile Mech that does very good in ALL possible situations. Check out this build http://mechwarrioron...ler-build-ever/
