Just played a game where we got base rushed on river city because some PUG decided he wanted to lead everyone lower while the enemy team went upper. I called enemies moving upper in chat and to turn around, alas, no one listened.

This has been a trend in a lot of games played today. People, PLEASE, listen to your scouts. We don't just make up target locations. Pointing the team in the right direction is always my first priority. It's discouraging when no one listens and everyone runs off in the wrong direction.

Don't like capfests?

PLEASE LISTEN TO YOUR SCOUTS!

This PSA brought to you by Cest7.

Yeah, when your cent is crying for help in teamchat and 6 pugs chase a jenner across the map...

Maybe it's time to focus fire worthwhile targets?

Happens all to often.
I normal call "TAG and ECM" and "Scouting Left/Right/Tunnel" (Among others) at start but few times do I get any reply to this or updates I give.
Also happy to get orders if you need targets, as there seems to be a lot of LRM around recently.

Join TS and find a better group if you want to win more often, but playing random drops is more of a challenge.

Had the same on Caustic. Everyone beelined on one side of the crater to enemy base.

I stood back on a hill a bit away from the base to get a good sniper position and the entire enemy lance came from the other side and shot me before I had barely any time to say where the enemy were.

The capture mechanic needs to be changed in those battles.

Perhaps an attack/defend scenario

Other than on the Alpine maps, the scouts job is to say "they're here, or they're not here" then get back to the group. Most of the maps are hardly larger than a postage stamp, and River City is practically designed to be a base-rush-only map. It's a very unpopular map, and people just want to end the match and move on to a more fun scenario. The only thing stopping a base-rush in River City is one big fight in the middle. Hell, you can directly shoot targets from one base to the other by just moving a few meters to the right or left. You mind as well be playing football on a tennis court for all the tactics available on that map.

When more large maps come out, scouts will become invaluable. Hang in there with the rest of us who can't wait for stuff like tactics.

And yeah, like another guy said, download Teamspeak, and go explore units to drop with, or just go lone wolf. But lone wolf or not, this game is a team game, no matter how much PGI currently seems to cater to solo players. When community warfare comes, it'll be nice to have a unit or two to work with.

I was playing all day today with a 4man, in comms we were commenting about how uncooperative the pugs were.

Edit- with OuttaAmmo NoWai actually :P

My target/location calls usually come within the first minute of the game, ample time to regroup and set something up.

Dear Scouts,

I'd really love to respond to the information you're providing, but I'm just a hunchie. I can't fight a lance on my own, or even survive sticking my neck out long enough to get an idea of what shape they are unless I've got heavies and salties doing the softening.

I listen to what you're saying in chat when I'm not in the middle of a firefight. I really would rather be fighting enemies than capping a base. But this game is very strongly team-based and unfortunately that means that by far the safest and smartest thing to do is to stay with the lance, even if they're going the wrong way.

Hey scout - if you can see 3 mechs, maybe the rest of the team can see the other 5 and are too busliy engaged to walk halfway across the map at 50kph, getting shot in the back on the way.

ECM makes coordinating tough - but more people should communicate - on that I heartily agree

Also
Plx ppl... stop calling solo players Pugs, it's the MWO equivalent of the N word.
Besides - if they got matched with you via ELO, they are as good as you are - just without the crutch of VOIP.

don't sweat it you did your job, some players suffer from trisomy 21

inform your team of the dangers and enemy positions but don't try to lead them because people don't follow the raven, they follow the fracking atlas... assaults are the real commanders of the battlefield, as a scout your role is not to command but to inform and persuade

^^ this. I have tried to scout in a.similar way myself with mixed success. I am more content in a striker role now anyway, especially with effective light hunters like the 3L out in the mix.

I have found jumpjets to be a very good way to scout. You can get eyes on target sooner then a land based scout. Also, I can do my scouting while staying near the main column.

OP, when the situation you described arises on River city, I end up doing a delaying tactic to buy our team enough time to counter cap.

Sounds like they did listen, and avoided the conflict for a quick EXP win.

Yes, maybe when YOU use it in that manner - but I see it used in a very derogatory way, often.
Go see the "Puggers and Noobs, why do you play that way" thread - there's no mistaking the offence intended.

PUG will not stop being used, a pick up group is the opposite of a pre-made group.

And it will remain to be so no matter how many thin skinned people choose to take offense at the perfectly harmelss term.

I have to agree.. 50% of the time I PUG and for the other I am using VOIP to play with a group. I certainly don't add any emotional connotation to the PUG word... ;)

wow. just wow.

Anything else you want to find reasons to take offense to? Seriously, if PUG offends you, please never walk into a bar, nightclub or almost any other public establishment. The language will burn your precious ears.

Please stop reading more into things than actually there. There are certainly fools who use it as an insult. And there are even more people who use it for what it means. Seriously need some rhino skin bro.
